UAW union just ordered 6,800 workers to strike a massive Ram truck facility

The United Auto Workers union sent 6,800 Stellantis employees to the picket line Monday morning in a surprise, targeted strike at the company’s Ram truck facility.

The Sterling Heights Assembly Plant is Stellantis’ “largest plant and biggest moneymaker,” UAW said in a statement Monday. The plant, about a half-hour north of Detroit, in Sterling Heights, Michigan, produces the Ram 1500 pickup.

The union said the company, which makes vehicles under the Dodge, Ram, Jeep and Chrysler brands, has “the worst proposal on the table” in its negotiations on pay, converting temporary workers to full time and cost-of-living adjustments.

“Despite having the highest revenue, … the highest profit margins, and the most cash in reserve, Stellantis lags behind both Ford and General Motors in addressing the demands of their UAW workforce,” the UAW said.

The Ram pickup trucks are Stellantis’ best-selling vehicles in the US market. It sold 332,000 Ram pickups in the United States in the first nine months of this year. But it is not the only plant that builds the Ram 1500. They are also produced at a nonunion plant in Mexico, as well as another UAW-represented plant in Warren, Michigan. Stellantis does not disclose how many pickups come out of each plant, but Sterling Heights is the largest of the plants building the trucks.

This is the second “surprise” targeted strike in two weeks by the UAW. The first was at Ford on October 11, when the UAW went on strike at that automaker’s largest plant, the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville.

Stellantis formed in 2021 through the merger of Fiat Chrysler and European automaker PSA Group.

The good news is they won’t be making any more crappy trucks.

Stellantis needs to get right on this after the holidays. Or maybe late spring or early summer. I’m imagine they’ve got enough trucks sitting around to keep the game going.

Last I looked there was over a 100-day supply of them. Meaning the strike actually helps scalantis because now they don’t have to pay these employees

Since they will be dealing with a bunch of commie union thugs, they might want to hire a pretty good sized, well-armed security firm to help keep an eye on their facilities.

Another communist-controlled union does its part to move more manufacturing out of the U.S.

If polls are true a majority of the American people support the UAW in the strike.

This just adds to my anger at them.

I congratulate Dodge Ram “workers” but not the Union crooks.

I say this because I just returned from a 9,400 mile round trip from Central Texas to Dawson City, Yukon Territory and Anchorage Alaska.

My brand new Ram 3500 dually never skipped a beat and all systems performed perfectly while pulling a 41’ boat and 22,000 pound goose neck load. Love my RAM!

There is no sane reason Ram shouldn’t be able to sue UAW and all 6800 of its thugs, provided they can prove damages. But they can’t sue because the 1935 National Labor Relations Act protects them.

On strike to raise the price of already over priced vehicles. Think about it.

A follow-up:

Neighbor’s son just HAD TO HAVE a NEW RAM TRUCK-—Maybe 3-4 years ago.

Payments over $600 a month & he lives on Military disability.

About 7-8 MONTHS ago, truck quits running.

SEEMS IT HAS A BROKEN CRANKSHAFT-—

SEEMS IT ISN’T THE ONLY ONE-——

DEALERSHIPS ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY HAVE THESE TRUCKS SITTING ON THEIR PROPERTY-—AWAITING REPAIRS-—UNDER WARRANTY.

FOR SOME STUPID REASON——RAM IS USING GERMAN DIESEL ENGINES-—AND THESE AWAITING WARRANTY REPAIR ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.

SOOOOOOOO—DO YOU GET NEW ENGINES FROM A DIFFERENT SUPPLIER????

OR DO YOU LET THE SAME SUPPLIER PROVIDE THE REPLACEMENTS?????

I am 83.

I have been around racing since before I was 20.

I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF OVER 100,000 VEHICLES OF SAME BRAND WITH BROKEN CRANKSHAFTS...in a short time.

CANNOT REMEMBER MORE THAN A COUPLE OF SUCH “BROKEN” CRANKSHAFTS IN YEARS OF GOING TO DRAG RACES.

NO ONE KNOWS WHEN THIS WILL ALL GET FIXED-—

AND HIS $600 a month payments continue.

One look at the percentage of UAW cars on any highway tells me another story.

Damn. That is a road trip for sure.

How much did you pay in gas in the various states you went through?

Here in NJ it’s $3.30 a gallon.

The companies should lower all wages 50 cents/hour for everyday there is a strike. If need be hire replacements.

In Yukon Territory......we paid $2.05 Canadian per liter which is $7.94 per gallon (diesel) but again that’s Canadian.

Translating that to American $7.94 is approximately $5.95 US per “gallon”.

So, that one fill up cost me, plus or minus a few dollars, $928.00 for 156 gallons.

I estimate we used about 1,600 gallons for the whole trip and paid an average from Austin to Yukon and back of about $4.50 per gallon or $7,200.

This was all for diesel by the way.

I think a reflection of this sad fact about fuel in Canada is that the highways, and I mean highways like our Interstates are absolutely empty most of the time. You will see about 1 car every 5 minutes and almost zero big trucks.

They have shot themselves in the foot with taxes on fuel (aka socialism) and collectively are too stupid to know it. Everybody has to stay home because they cannot afford fuel.

But, hey!, they get free health care!

That’s a lot of money no matter how you look at it.

My daughter-in-law is from Calgary. Been there once.

As soon as you’re out of the city limits it wide open space, nothing or no one around for miles.

Yeah, ‘’free health care’’.

My daughter-in-laws step father need a heart bypass.

It was six months to get on a waiting list and then eighteen months of waiting after that for the procedure.

He came here, actually to Scottsdale , AZ and got it done in a week.

Dodge is having a hard enough time selling vehicles. Particularly their trucks… but sure why not
