Truth be told most graduates of public high schools in LA, Chicago, Detroit , Atlanta. Philadelphia and New York City are functionally illiterate, cannot do basic math and are routinely graduated.

Reading and writing were forbidden on some plantations in the Old South for this very reason. Democrats, both times. In modern terms, a class of citizens who are perpetually dissatisfied with dealing with the difficulties of life nourishes the anti-MAGA agenda.
It is telling that teacher unions and government education systems argue against improvement with the illogical "harm to students of color" rationale.

I feel those on the board are screwed no matter what they do. If they try to enforce some standards…the thugs will riot, call them racist and sue. If they don’t then they knowingly graduate students who will be a drag on society. Ugly situation.

They’ll be accepted right into the Oregon’s top-tier universities - b/c no ACT or SAT required.
If they’re POCs, they’ll get preference over far more qualified students who CAN read, write and compute.
