During an interview with NewsNation aired on Wednesday’s broadcast of “The Hill,” 2024 Republican presidential candidate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis argued that if his rival Republican candidate former President Donald Trump had followed his promise to build a wall on the border, “it would have been much more difficult for Biden to get away with” the damage he’s done on the border.
DeSantis said, “I do think, when he’s saying things, like, in Iowa, the other day, that, well, he couldn’t follow his campaign promise to have Mexico build the border — pay for the border wall, because there was, no legal mechanism he could have used to have Mexico pay, so he’s rationalizing that failure. The problem is, that was his main campaign promise. I was at the rallies. It was fun. Everyone was cheering that. And the second thing is there actually was a way he could have done that. He could have imposed fees — and I will do this as president — you could have imposed fees on the remittances that people send to foreign countries, Mexico included. That would have raised billions of dollars.”
He added, “I think it’s important, because that was his core campaign promise. You look at what Biden’s done with that border. If he had followed through and built the wall, it would have been much more difficult for Biden to get away with what’s happened.”

Desantis is a lying RINO POS
Talk to your buddy Paul Ryan. He stopped the fence and Ron probably cheered.
I swear the Ron fan club are the same DIMWITS who always pushed McCain.
The Republican House and Senate stopped it!!
You may want to look here: https://floir.com/home. This is the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation. Here is from the website:
The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) is responsible for all activities concerning insurers and other risk bearing entities, including licensing, rates, policy forms, market conduct, claims, issuance of certificates of authority, solvency, viatical settlements, premium financing, and administrative supervision, as provided under the Florida Insurance Code or Chapter 636, Florida Statutes. The head of the OIR is the Florida Insurance Commissioner.
The Commissioner is appointed by the Financial Services Commission (FSC). The FSC is comprised of the Governor, Chief Financial Officer, Attorney General, and Commissioner of Agriculture. The FSC serves as agency head for purposes of rulemaking pursuant to sections 120.536-120.565, Florida Statutes. FSC action is taken by majority vote. The Insurance Commissioner is considered the agency head for purposes of final agency action for all areas within the regulatory authority delegated to OIR.
During the campaign, build the wall was a battle cry (along with criminal Hillary) Th plan to get those priorities done should have started day 1. If he could declare an emergency later, he could have declared one at the inauguration.
I hope he will spend his next speech at the inauguration listing immediate actions and no traditional platitudes.
Trump should have kept his promise, but doesn’t take much for the Biden admin to tear down the fence (it’s not wall) that Trump was partially building anyway.
What a disingenuous jackass!
Trump built hundreds of miles of wall. The wall was going up several miles a day. The left and the right tried to stop him every day.
“Trump should have kept his promise”
What promise did he not keep about the wall??
Huhhhh...?? Is he kidding?
sure ... and that’s the problem ... government should stay out of it unless insurance fraud occurs ...
What an @sshole DeSantis is !
Ron’s @sshole cronies in the Repub Congress blocked any funding.
What Wall that was built, Trump had to use Emergency National Security funding and Congressional Repub @ssholes screeched and shrieked about that too, and tried to stop it.
Desantis is DONE!
Finished.
Stick a fork in him......
I guess Ron didn’t know that when he signed legislation (which didn’t help).
Today, Governor DeSantis signed three bills that strengthen Florida’s property insurance market, expand the state’s home hardening and hazard mitigation programs, and further protect consumers against bad actors. These actions build on the Governor’s strong record of instituting meaningful reforms to Florida’s property insurance market. Additionally, Governor DeSantis is announcing the approval of an additional $100 million in the 2023–24 General Appropriations Act for the My Safe Florida Home Program which provides grants to Florida homeowners for hurricane retrofitting, making homes safer and more resistant to hurricane damage and bringing the state’s combined investment to $250 million over the past year.
If the government could make it so there are less insurance commercials on my TV, I would back that. lol
Ron DeSantis voted NO to the border wall.
NAY: HR6136 - Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018. Vote taken on 6-27-2018.
DeSantis is a disingenuous liar!
I guess Ron needs a lesson on government action. It takes a majority of 535 congress members and senators to pass appropriation legislation before the president can sign it and enact it into law.
These were the same 535 congress members and senators during his residency to failed to action to stop Obamacare.
Yup. Sad to say I actually went to a McCain rally. Fool me once and all that...
Paul Ryan is to blame
“Ron’s @sshole cronies in the Repub Congress blocked any funding.”
Ron DeSantis, himself, blocked the wall funding when he provided the key vote to block HR6136 - Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018. Vote taken on 6-27-2018.
