DeSantis Amps Up Attacks on Trump, as G.O.P. Primary Enters a New Phase
New York Times ^ | Oct. 10, 2023 | By Nicholas Nehamas Reporting from Ron DeSantis’s 16-county bus tour across Iowa

Posted on 10/11/2023 12:45:37 PM PDT by conservative98

Criticizing a rival might not seem very notable in a presidential campaign. But Donald J. Trump is no ordinary rival, and Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida has been wary of alienating the former president’s base.

----------------

Since the start of his presidential campaign, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida has pulled his punches during speeches to voters, choosing not to attack the man leading him by 40 points in many national Republican primary polls.

But in recent stump speeches in California, South Carolina, Florida and Iowa, Mr. DeSantis has started attacking former President Donald J. Trump more directly, drawing laughter and applause from his audiences.

Previously, Mr. DeSantis had talked about Mr. Trump, who helped secure his political rise, only when prompted by questions from voters or during interviews with the news media. No longer.

Speaking to a crowd of several hundred people on Saturday at a packed coffee shop north of Des Moines, the Florida governor pointed out that Mr. Trump had gone back on his pledge to make Mexico pay for a border wall, after Mr. Trump suggested recently that it was an impossible promise to keep. Mr. DeSantis tried to draw a strong contrast with his rival, laying out a plan to fund the wall by imposing fees on remittances back to Mexico.

I don’t know what it was but she has pivoted back.

Ron should have just stuck to regular ole cowboys boots or maybe have been happy with the height God gave him.

So much emphasis on things like that anymore. The whole freaking world is falling apart.

Hang it up Ron.
Save your $$$ and go back to fixing FL.
Teach other Red States how to fix themselves.
Help to weed out infiltrators.
That is enough work to last a lifetime.

"DeSantis needs to attack Jihad Joe and the Democrat Party.

Trump is ahead because Trump as POTUS has a good record of practical and workable domestic and foreign policies (remember the world with cheap gas, no inflation and no wars?). Trump is a fighter and not a phony with his own FU money."

THIS. This is The Post Of The Week™.

You cannot just run against President Trump, and never spend any time shooting down The White Hospice!

Target-rich environment! Maybe Meatball could have had a different angle of attack -- but he couldn't win the argument, and I'll tell you why.

It became very apparent very early, before Ronlim announced, that his campaign was the chosen loser, the griftmobile for the PACs, the dark money PACs, and the professional campaign grifters like JeffRoe.

It's no different than in 2020, Democrat Amy "Baby Eater" McGrath losing -20 to Miotch's zillionth re-election, but the Democrat PACs washed $90 MILLION of dark money through her losing campaign, and not even half of that was cable and advertising, but bogus 'consultancies'.

The linchpin was Casey Chemobrain DeSantis' Trump Derangement Syndrome. She forbade Greasy from anything but TDS 24/7. And the proof is in the polling pudding.

“A Bronze Star is not a combat medal. Even JAGs qualify to receive it. John Kerry served in the military, as did John McCain.”

You are comparing DeSantis with Kerry? You are lost somewhere in the fog.

“Single digit mental midget. Meatball can go to hell.”

Have you nothing better to do that to call a conservative names? Supporting Trump, fine. Your style just belongs back in junior high school.

If they lose the way the polls are suggesting it doesn’t matter how much money they have, Trump will be the nominee (in a free country). Desanctimonius really isn’t a better candidate than Trump. Trump brings in a different constituency than Desanctimonius. Haley brings none of MAGA with her. I’d just as soon slow Crooked Joe.

He’s not a conservative and apparently you are either too ignorant to know that or you are not a conservative. Meatball is a piece of chit bought and paid for by special interests and big donors. He goes to Team Bush for advice. He’s been a lazy ass government employee most of his adult life. He has nothing in common with MAGA other than occasional virtue signaling. I will never vote for him.

No, but I guess logic is a little too subtle a thing for you to grasp. I made the point that military service does not always indicate a person’s character or patriotism. Understand?

My mistake. But as far as I can determine, DeSantis’s Bronze star wasn’t accompanied by the V device.

I saw stupid DeSanctimonious ad, which said, “One candidate won re-election; one didn’t.” Say what?

Did that ad have the part where Ron wouldn’t have won the first time without the guy who gave him support, that he is dissing now?

He’s on an extended vacation via the taxpayer’s of Florida. If he hadn’t taken the step, to have the “Resign to Run” law changed so he didn’t have to resign his Governorship in order to run for President, he’d have already dropped out.

"A Bronze Star is not a combat medal."

The only reason lawyers are in battle zones these days, is to make sure our troops follow the rules of engagement defined by the government, so they don't offend our enemies. When the government put lawyers in charge of running military operations, this country lost the ability to ever win another war again, by whatever means necessary.
