If I recall correctly, there was a large deportation of illegal Mexican immigrants (typically referred to as “wetbacks” in those less-enlightened times) during the Eisenhower administration. Of course the numbers were not anywhere near what we’ve got now, but I’m pretty sure there is a precedent.
