Thanks for posting. Lt Gov Dan Patrick highly recommended that people listen to Smithee’s comments made in May 2023.
What Smithee said then certainly were confirmed when the ‘fact witnesses’ were put under oath during the Senate Trial.
Namely, that Paxton was impeached by the TX House based upon second and third party hearsay evidence.
I wonder if the impeachment instigators maybe thought that it would never get so far as them actually having to produce evidence. Did they think that with accusations and innuendo, along with the cooperative media, they would force Paxton to resign before the Senate trial ever took place? That would have caused the voters to believe that all of the allegations must have been true and the GOPe’s goals would have been accomplished.
Or maybe they thought they could convince their Senate counterparts to just go straight to the vote and find Paxton guilty without the need to produce any evidence.
Either way, I assume then a special election would have been held and who would be the obvious replacement? A Bush, of course. Then, all would have been returned to “normal” in Texas.

Now, the Senate did the right thing and did a splendid job of repairing the Texas Legislatures rolling CF.
