As I was driving home tonight, I had the radio on listening to the Catholic station here in Phoenix (1310am).
The news came on and they reported that there are at least 400 dead in Maui and more likely upwards of 800-900 and that 40% of the dead are children. The given reason for the news blackout is that they are still trying to ID the bodies.
I understand the need to ID the body before releasing names.
But I don’t understand why the total number of dead has been so variable and so slow in being updated.
There are a lot of unknowns. Some people, knowing they had to bypass the police blockades, may be avoiding the authorities and are keeping themselves uncontactable. A few may have been on vacation and are simply unaware of this disaster. Some are in the midst of trying to rebuild things and haven’t taken the time to contact the government.
There’s no good reason for the obscurity

Marxists don’t care. They murdered hundreds of millions already. A thousand dead children don’t matter. NOTHING stops the marxist utopia.
You can say what you wish, but in chaotic situations it takes time to account for everything. I can also see the government delaying until we forget and every conspiracy you can think of.
I was only giving a rational answer for when disasters do hit and we have unaccounted for dead, because that does happen.

115 dead. 388 still on the unaccounted for list, but that’s a soft number - anyone who made a call asking for whereabouts of a resident or tourist triggered a name being added to the list. They are still seriously looking for about ~50 people. So likely 115-165 dead in this horrible fire. No need to BS it up.

If you believe for one second you will get the truth from this single party state you must be a Democrat and are delusional.
Shit loads of kids and families died. They were cremated sorting that out isn’t easy especially for the Democrats that run the state. They hire on the basis of politics not skills.
What kind of resort, with townhouses, condos, and beach front homes will replace the old town?
Follow the money.
It is just another form of Democrat control. We no longer have a media, America is gone. The free Press is over. Maui is just the first of many.

In contrast FL airports, power, roads and other things restored the same day of a nearly Cat 4 hurricane’s landfall. Leaders do, politicians talk about doing.
Time will tell - with these disasters NOTHING happens all at once. Although I don’t think Maui is helping themselves by putting up black privacy fences around it all and limiting the media and even official FEMA images from getting out.
They have not been able to completely hide all the evidence so the situation is still in flux and they have not yet decided on the official position
that will most effectively cover-up the truth and protect the guilty.
Soon they will manage to focus the blame on a few innocents or bit players.
Following that they will find a way (with media cooperation) to pat themselves on the back for their heroic efforts as they tried to prevent this tragedy.
