When asked to name the United States president who has done the best job over the past 40 years, a majority of Democrats name Barack Obama. Republicans, by contrast, are divided between a president who served in the 1980s – Ronald Reagan – and one who is currently running to return to office, Donald Trump.
About four-in-ten Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (41%) say Reagan has done the best job as president over the past 40 years. Slightly fewer (37%) say Trump has done the best job, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in July.

no shock that Democrats think these presidents were bad presidents.
Golly gee, who were the others??
The two friggin Bushes.
No Coolidge?
“majority of Democrats name Barack Obama”
But they can’t give 3 specific reasons “why?” other than the malanin thing . . .
News media were probably flummoxed that Clinton and Obama were off the list.
“No Coolidge?”
The three best presidents of the last 100 years were Coolidge, Reagan and Trump, all of whom were endlessly vilified by the left.
sometimes we hear reports that historians have rank ordered all the presidents. These rankings all depend on the criteria used to evaluate the historic impact of a president. FDR is often near the top of such lists, because of his being president during the depression and World War II.
Some rankings show President Hoover near the bottom, for his allegedly causing the depression.
I think we all know that events are much more complex, than saying Hoover caused a depression, and that FDR ended it. But people’s perceptions are often based on very simplistic criteria.
Dat me.
Ditto.
No kidding.
No Bush 41??? (S)
On the dem side today, they are all ‘Rats. 100%.
However, Republicans generally look poorly at JFK. I think this will be soon changing for the positive, due to some of JFK’s views:
There is the “Rip the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it into the winds”. Then, there is JFK’s EO 11110, directing Treasury to create real money (LBJ shredded that one soon after the murder).
IMO, we’ve only had three good presidents since 1900:
1. Reagan & Trump (tied for first)
3. Cool Cal Coolidge who believed individual freedom and private business, not government ran the show in America.
Democrats view Obama as "best" because all their Democrat friends view Obama as "best."
Gotta follow the herd at all costs. It's easier that way.
Cultists.
Best Republican Presidents in my lifetime which started in 1971.
1) Trump and Reagan
2) Nixon
The rest are Ford, Bush, and Bush.(Who cares about the order)
Indeed.
I would say that Carter is responsible for the “malaise” of the 70’s and Reagan was responsible for the prosperity of the 80’s.
Would you agree?
Note “...
On November 28, 1961, President Kennedy halted sales of silver by the Treasury Department. Increasing demand for silver as an industrial metal had led to an increase in the market price of silver above the United States government’s fixed price. This led to a decline in the government’s excess silver reserves by over 80% during 1961. Kennedy also called upon Congress to phase out silver certificates in favor of Federal Reserve notes which, according to the Associated Press at that time, were still backed by gold. ...
The order allowed the Secretary to issue silver certificates, if any were needed, during the transition period under President Kennedy’s plan to eliminate Silver Certificates and use Federal Reserve Notes
...”
Notice the words “ ...eliminate Silver Certificates and use Federal Reserve Notes ...”!
Doesn’t sound like much of “hard money” policy to me!
How about JFK’S EO to allow federal unions?
LBJ later formalized with legislation.
