West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D) says he is “thinking seriously” about leaving the Democratic Party and declaring himself an independent before the 2024 election, when he will have to decide whether to run for a fourth Senate term or wage a third-party bid for president.
Manchin, who earlier this year described himself as an independent Democrat, told West Virginia radio host Hoppy Kercheval on Thursday that the Democratic brand has “become so bad.”
“I’m thinking seriously. For me, I have to have peace of mind, basically. The brand has become so bad — the D brand and R brand. In West Virginia, the D brand because it’s [the] national brand. It’s not the Democrats in West Virginia, it’s the Democrats in Washington.

Well, Joe… you phony, YOU voted to put Chuck Schumer in charge of the Senate and YOU voted to advance the agenda of Biden’s handlers.
He made the calculation he can no longer win in WV with a D after his name. So, he declares himself running as an Independent. Bernie Sanders is an Independent. He caucuses with Dems as will Manchin. Too cute by half. Same crap, different day. Vote him out.
I’m not voting for him regardless of party, or for any office.

I think accepting him with the possibility of regaining control of the Senate and committees is outweighed by the damage he would do within the party.
He’d vote conservative more often than at least 10 GOPe Senators, making him a middle-of-the-road Republican.
Also, he is so gullible that he invited Schumer to mount a permanent "Kick Me" sign on the back of his suit coat, yet can't figure out why is azz is constantly bruised.
No one cares about his incessant whining.
What payout is Manchin trying to get this time?
I’ve said all along he would flip to Independent after he got rolled by the D party over the budget deal. He’ll caucus with the Dems but be more of a decider as they’ll have to suck up to him rather than just expecting him to fall in line like good democrats do.
I do think he is more conservative minded...And I think the Dems hate him. We have the same feeling for Romney, Collins and MUrkowsi...
He’s pandering to try and avoid being defeated by Justice. At this point even Mooney would be him!

Yep. And once in, you have to wait for them to die. It took a long time for McCain to finally leave feet first. Romney will probably live to be 100.
