Oregon Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade announced on Aug. 8 that six Republican senators who participated in a walkout during the 2023 legislative session may not run for reelection in 2024.
GOP legislators pledged to fight the decision in court.
The ruling is the first test of Oregon Ballot Measure 113.
Approved by voters in 2021, the measure is an “initiated constitutional amendment,” that states legislators with 10 or more unexcused absences are barred from appearing on the ballot during the following term.
The measure is intended to prevent tactics like a walkout, which both parties have used to deny a two-thirds quorum needed to vote on legislation in the state.

LaVonne sounds like she could use a swift kick in the pants. She’s out of control.
It’s a constitutional amendment passed by the people.
The people deserve what they vote for.
.... pardon me.
BITCH
Yup. And the dumbass legislators that walked out should have known about their own state's constitution and amendments.
Greater Idaho is the answer. Phat chance.
What’s with all of these public officials who are acting like it’s their 16th birthday & everybody’s gotta do what they say?
Some republicans aren’t so quick on the uptake. Hello - there’re two standards of behavior now, and two sets of rules.
unexcused absences
Well, excuse me.
there shall be no political test for office i thought?
But the left loved the Tennessee Three and recently re-elected one.
they should have stayed out rather than caving since they lost their jobs anyway.
and another is reported to be considering running for the Senate.
As was the State of Jefferson.
Biden would kill us if we tried.
so in Idaho they can miss as many sessions as they want?
apparently no note from their parents
Never underestimate the stupidity of Oregon voters.
This change to the Oregon Constitution passed with 68% of the vote.
There are Republicans in Oregon? What difference has it made?
We need that in Texas for the Dems who walk out when things don’t go there way.
