President Richard Nixon, the 37th president, announced he would be resigning from the office on this day in history, August 8, 1974.
In a speech delivered to the nation from the Oval Office, Nixon said his resignation would go into effect "at noon tomorrow."
On August 9, Gerald Ford would assume the presidency as the nation's 38th president.
Nixon was the first U.S. president to resign from the position. He left the highest office in the land in the face of likely impeachment amid the Watergate scandal, which involved his administration's cover-up of spying activities on the Democratic Party's headquarters during the election.

And they tried to "Nixon" Trump, but Trump was more stubborn.
And when it came to identifying and intimidating opponents and election fraud, Watergate was child’s play compared to what FDR, the Kennedys, LBJ, the Clintons, the Obamas, and Bidens engaged in (and continue to do so as far as the latter three are concerned).
Nixon was a rhino Globalist. Nothing like Trump.
still cant believe Nixon let the media get the best of him....he was so full of hatred for them, he got suckered into almost a trap of his own making. I can see where he was coming from, but should have kept his cool. Remarkable, complex man...i admired him.
A day I will never forget. That evening my husband Dan and I were driving to dinner... Bam! Fractured skull, crushed pelvis, dislocated everything else. 10 days in ICU. I watched tv news 24/7.
Nixon was the medias ultimate trophy win...theyve been riding high ever since....
His resignation saved the Republican party... Ford served out the rest of Nixon’s term... Ford then lost to Carter and Carter got a resounding boot out of office with yet another Republican landslide in 1980 and again in 1984 and even Bush senior won a term for 12 consecutive years of Republican rule.
The leftist cabal’s first overturned election.
Could have been 16 years if not for Perot lol
You mean it could have been 16 years if not for Bush.
The media/left were after Nixon nailed Ager Hiss in 1948.
It was REAGAN that won in 88 NOT Bush. Reagan won 3 Landlides.
Over what?
True enough... A crazy old rich guy screwing up the GOP... Sounds oddly familiar?
Mr Read my lips did help either. You are right
I cried when Nixon left. Remember well his ladylike wife, Pat Nixon. Think of her often when vulgar. Tablecloth Jill appears in the news.
My mother (Gcd rest her soul) would absolutely call Jill a “vulgarian”.
Go watch Tucker’s monologue on Nixon you hack.
Nixon was railroaded. Watergate was a complete setup and scam.
First he beat the then Dem California Rep. to become a member of the House. He served on HUAC, hated stinking COMMIES and those who supported them, which got them all in a snit.
Next up, he beat Helen Gahagan Douglas for a seat in the Senate, using pink paper ( back then EVERYONE knew that that implied that she was a damned PINKO, which she WAS! ) for a flyer he sent out against her! This is what earned him the "TRICKY DICKIE' nick name that some uninformed supposed Conservatives like to condemn him with, here, which makes THEM RINOS and as bad as the other side!
As Ike's running mate and then VEEP, he was continually attacked, some cheered when he was attacked in Venezuela, they went after his wife and daughters, claimed that he took gifts and bribes ( see THE CHECKERS SPEECH ! ), was a lie !
The Dem/LEFTY and yes, media attacks NEVER stopped and went on for THIRTY YEARS, whilst he was in office and are still coming to this day!
And for those calling him a "RINO"...no, he was not one, and you are judging him through a tainted lens, lack of factual knowledge, as well as with today's standards! THAT IS ABSURD AND WRONG!
