Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said in an interview Friday that the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol “was not an insurrection.”
During an interview with actor Russell Brand, DeSantis was asked if he would consider those who participated in the Jan. 6 riot “insurrectionists” or “protesters.” The Florida Republican downplayed the events of the Capitol attack, saying in part of his response, “it was not an insurrection.”
“These are people that were there to attend a rally and then they were there to protest. Now, it devolved, and it devolved into a riot. But the idea that this was a plan to somehow overthrow the government of the United States is not true, and it’s something that the media had spun up just to try to basically, you know, get as much mileage out of it and use it for partisan and for political aims,” DeSantis continued.

DeSantis will say whatever he thinks his particular audience at the moment wants to hear. DeSantis wants it both ways. He wants MAGA voters to think he agrees with them on what J6 was all about, and he wants to re-assure the political-donor class that he doesn’t. Straddling the fence that way requires the kind of verbal subtlety and nuance that only a lawyer can truly master.

That is about as nice a way to say it as possible beyond "some people did something" but misses entirely the gravity of the situation.
People in jail without bail or bond, a leading political candidate charged with all manner of offenses, an authoritarian administration running wild just begins to describe the matter a bit more accurately. A bit of outrage would fit nicely into any intelligent response.
DeSantis is devolving into the new Pence...
He would immediately ascend in the polls if he regularly gave Trump his unwavering support.
He really doesn’t have a national identity and is struggling to find one.
The other day on the NewsMax ticker tape at the bottom of the tv screen referenced the J6 protest as “the attack on the Capital”. Hey NewsMax, that’s an excellent way to lose viewers.
It’s amazing that an a-hole like DeSantis would take almost three years to admit this. He knew Jan 6 was a setup and was lying before but now that voters are rejecting him he has changed his tune but now it’s too late.
Goodbye ersatz Trump, you establishment sock puppet.
The real Insurrection was in Atlanta, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Detroit, and Charlotte on 11/6/20 as they quite literally made up votes.
