Donald Trump Dominates Turning Point Action’s GOP Primary Straw Poll at 87.5%

According to the Trafalgar Group poll, attendees at the Turning Point Action Conference in West Palm Beach, Florida, chose Trump at 87.5% among Republican candidates and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at only 4.3%.

DeSantis actually came in third behind businessman Perry Johnson, who garnered 7.8%, despite the conference happening in the governor’s state.

About 3,000 attendees responded to the poll, half of the approximate 6,000 total attendees. Half of the attendees were between the ages of 18-21, while the other half were of varying ages.

Trump attended the event on Saturday, delivering a lengthy speech that covered a number of different topics. Meanwhile, DeSantis did not attend the event in his home state.

His campaign press secretary Bryan Griffin said in a statement to the Washington Examiner:

Governor DeSantis spent the day with Iowans and spoke to a packed house at the Tennessee GOP Statesman Dinner later that night. This was a day after he delivered the strongest interview at the Family Leadership Summit, which Donald Trump notably skipped. Ron DeSantis is campaigning to win.

For attendees’ second preference, half of the respondents chose Vivek Ramaswamy, who also spoke at the conference and was swarmed by attendees afterwards. Twenty-one percent named Trump as their second choice, and 13.5% chose DeSantis.

Turning Point founder and CEO Charlie Kirk told the Examiner:

The straw poll demonstrates that President Trump remains the single most dominant force among the conservative grassroots. All the attacks against him have seemingly made him even stronger and more popular among the conservative faithful.

The poll from Trafalgar also found that more than 95% of respondents were against U.S. involvement in the war with Ukraine, that the southern border was the “most important issue” facing America, and a majority saying they were excited about the Republican National Committee’s primary debate in August.

Notably, about 66% said they did not trust the RNC to get voters to the polls in 2024, according to the report, and a huge 77% majority said they do not plan to donate to the RNC. Nearly 90% favored early voting and vote banking.

I think some of the participants were sending DeSantis a message by voting Perry Johnson. They DeSantis has sold out to the establishment and wanted to send him a message to get lost.

Yes, and Johnson placed second. What kind of idiotic crowd was at this event?

Neither will Trump. He already failed while a sitting president.

What I am saying is that this was a Trump lovefest that attracted Johnson supporters and no one else. Undermines the event credibility. Well, mocks the event if the only alternative to that crowd was Johnson.

Half of the attendees were between the ages of 18-21.

That’s a good sign the youth have had a sampling of socialism and found out what it tastes like.

It was a great crowd, a lot of young conservatives as well. Here's your answer, which you will promptly ignore: Post 6 of this thread.

How has DeSantis sold out to the establishment? Look at his actions in Florida, not just the talk. He’s agenda there and nationally is not RINO, not GOPe. It is conservative, social conservative, fiscal conservative. Once DeSantis matches or replaces Trump I’m quite sure we’ll see RINO and GOPe disconnect. Right now it doesn’t matter as it is Trump 24x7. But we have 8 months.

Folks,

Start off remembering EVERY article we review is written with an agenda. An agenda to divide us and manipulate us.

The media loves to see us fight over the candidates. They quote Trump and DeSantis out of context.

THIS IS ALL MEdIA DRIVEN.

So what is a proper plan of action? Step one at least is to remember everything we read, especially the headlines is fake news.

Think before you post, ask questions, recognize there are good points of both, No candidate is perfect.

Have a proper fight on the issues and candidates. Don’t repeat the agenda of the media.

How has DeSantis sold out to the establishment?

I've liked him as a governor, as a newly minted Floridian, he's done a good job. He has disappointed me with his obvious connections to the old GOP who hates Trump. If RDS doesn't drop out soon, he will sink like a stone, even in the eyes of his Florida voters. I find that kind of sad, and can only attribute his run as one for money, a promise of his ascendance after Trump is "convicted" of beating Hillary, um, er....doing all those really baaaaaaad things the Hillary party says he does every day.

I find that off putting, there is no reason he will do any better than Trump. He is clearly not ready for this. He's not a very good campaigner, doesn't have the charisma necessary for a national campaign, and his numbers are dropping while Vivek is surpassing him.

He needs to quit before he damages his viability forever.

1. He clearly got bad advice from the GOP stalwarts that he could take out Trump. There is not another good explanation for this folly. They offered him money, position, dangling the carrot of fame for him. That he wasn't howling about the Stalinism of these indictments like Vivek and some others tells a lot. Not a good look.
2. His flip flop on Ukraine was a big tell. The donors ALL want Ukraine for some nefarious reason, and he complied.
3. His campaign staff is so overwhelmingly old GOP failures. That's another tell.
4. If you haven't noticed him getting the approvals from Paul Ryan, Rove, and the other Bushies, then kindly open your eyes.

So, you want DeSantis to become a quitter because he’s campaigning against Trump, yet you excuse others. Nice hypocrisy.

No, I'd prefer he finish his term in Florida and run when there is a better opportunity for him, rather than destroy his political career as he is doing. He has shown pretty clearly he doesn't have the ability to win here.

Nice stupidity.

I was watching in 2020 as big mouth had his victory stolen from underneath his oval office. He didn’t see the fraud coming. He now has zero chance of victory, and has likely screwed our party out of any future election wins.
