"Within the Sea Island group there has always been an insurance policy discussion in case DeSantis failed. The DC chatter about Youngkin or Kemp is not arbitrary; there is some substance to the presentation as outlined by those connected to the professional Republican class. The most likely person, however, is GA Republican Brian Kemp, not Youngkin.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is more deeply connected to the professional political GOPe group. He’s a company man with company bona fides. Kemp is also not a big fan of DeSantis and the ego-centric rise to stardom as promoted by a very specific subset of the overall Big Club group. Governor Kemp views Governor DeSantis as a Republican politician who has not earned the merit claimed by his supporters, and instead was gifted a glide path by the Bush group simply for being a Floridian."

Youngkin is shrewd, he will either take Trump's VP offer, or take down Warner in '26 (it's a shame the Senate sched doesn't permit him to take down Kaine next year, the gormless moloch).

Back to the Sea Island seaweeders, it is demonstrative how unintelligent the money behind DeSantis is, that Kemp is their Plan B, because somehow they think he can use the phone call against Trump, when in fact Trump will use the phone call against Kemp.

It is remarkable that supposed big-money political operators are completely unaware that Ruby isn't just ready to talk but already talking...

"Ruby Freeman has come under fire for the newly released videos, which appear to boldly contradict her sworn testimony to the Jan. 6 House Committee. As reported by RSBN, Freeman told officers on video that there was a likely coverup that took place in Georgia to hide election fraud, prior to her testimony in front of the House Committee.

It is serious,” she said. “It is deep. It is so real…the USB ports, I really would love to go live with that because the ballots is [sic] history…Now it’s the USB ports. So I need an attorney. I want to go live, I’ll go live on every platform because it is going to blow your mind.”

Freeman had previously been accused of taking part in fraudulent activities. Via The Georgia Record, she was seen on camera allegedly pulling boxes of mysterious ballots from under the table in Fulton County on Election Night. Freeman was also caught scanning and rescanning large stacks of ballots into a computer.

Trump pointed out that, based on the tapes ... Freeman was ready to blow the whistle on an alleged network of fraudsters that were potentially embedded within federal agencies.

“At first she thought that they had been caught, got VERY nervous, and wanted to ‘spill the beans’ on everyone,” Trump explained in his comments."

“If he'd just waited until 2028.”

Will Trump run yet again in 2028 if he loses in 2024?

DeSantis may have to wait until 2032, or even longer, if another Harold Stassen emerges in the Republican Party.

The Republican base hates the GOPe leadership. They have betrayed the base far too often and now they will have to pay for it.

And yet... they are still the leadership and they show no concern about what the base thinks.

It's almost as if they have some plan B for how to stay in office/power regardless of how the base votes.

I’m thinking DeSantis announced too soon. He should have waited till the Uniparty finishes off ‘Death by a Thousand Cuts’ to Trump.

Then jump in when that happens. All he can do now is ride out the dwindling ratings and hope for the best. Which means hoping “they” get Trump.

RDS should have followed Newsom’s example. Which is to patiently wait till Biden/Kamala is completely unelectable, then will announce sometime later this year.

Watch and see.

Well said. Many on Free Republic seem to take the position, that if DeSantis doesn’t win the presidency in 2024, his political career is over.

But as you note, history has some examples of people who did not win the nomination the first time around in the primaries, eventually do win in future years.

Seems people liked the idea of a Ron DeSantis candidacy more than the reality of a Ron DeSantis candidacy.

Just like Hillary ! LOL !

Take Joe Biden for example. He first started running for president in 1980. He lost Five Times. But son of a Biden - he finally won. By cheating.

Desantis or anyone is free to run, but it was beyond stupid for him to.

The establishment/globalist/Uniparty folks pumped him up believing he could take out Trump… he foolishly bought into the nonsense.

Now he has put himself in a position where he is going to wind up humiliated, and has damaged his brand to a point where he has gone from a position of being the likely front runner in 2028, to the odds of him ever being a serious candidate for the Presidency are now exceedingly reduced.

The complete misread by the establishment regarding Trump continues unabated.

Trump was always going to be the nominee, as long as he decided to run, he was the nominee… nothing is going to change that reality. Trump will handily win well over 60% of the primary votes cast.. all the others running will just fight to see what percentage of the remainder they will receive.

Never DeSantis
We don’t need another Globalist/GOP-e bought candidate or any candidate willing to sell himself to America’s enemies. No more business as usual. No more Mr Nice Guy.

Many on free republic are what you call babies.

It’s crazy how the idea of challenging the non-incumbent former president in a primary is considered an insult. Only for some though: anyone running this year who isn’t a credible threat to Trump’s nomination like Vivek will be considered for future nominations for some reason or another. It’s insane.

His political career would only be over if he didn’t disavow the RINO GOPe handlers and return to America First.
He was free to run whenever he wants, but this was a big mistake running this time with globalist backers. Only scumbag GOPe would consider this a good idea. And for them it was out of sheer hate for Trump and America First.

If he’d just waited until 2028”

My thoughts exactly. He compounded the error by waffling on Ukraine which seem to confirm the suspicions that he had become the GOPe’s chump. One of the biggest political blunders in recent memory. Such a waste, the guy really had the wind in his sails and then he blew it.

DeSantis might as well try “barking at the moon” to stop the inevitability of Trump winning the nomination.

Instead he’ll burn through his cash on his Fool’s Errand, while losing in a humiliating fashion.

Forget the republican side for a minute.
Biden beats DeSantis in EVERY POLL. So much for electability.
Where as Trump beats Biden in many polls.

I know what DeSantis worshippers are going to say.....polls don’t matter. So then why is poll numbers one of the criteria in eligible for debate stage.

Not even close to a decent analogy. Nixon is analogous to Trump. He won the 1960 election but the Kennedy’s stole it. Reagan came within a hairs width of getting the nomination in 1976, and McCain gave Bush a run for his money in 2000 and was always a media favorite because of his “maverick” status, that is, until he was the nominee. Rob is flaming out in Rick Perry fashion and has forever branded himself a fake, phony backstabber. His political career is done.
