Strike her from the record, tow it out to deep water and test some new ordinance on it.

“ We’re going to need as many ships as possible to counter the ChiCom threat.”

Well then, you’d better learn Mandarin because the “donor community” still wants more deindustrialization.

What about using the scrapped Carrier As a home for homeless people? It’s not the craziest idea I’ve heard today.

"The former Enterprise will be the first ever nuclear-powered carrier the Navy inactivates. The Nimitz is slated to be the second."

First carrier...yes. First nuke...no. Many subs have already been inactivated, and their de-fueled reactors are sitting in the desert at Hanford.

To replace the Enterprise is the George Washington (CVN-73).

I’m not sure what the replacement for Nimitz will be, as they say it’ll retire in 2025, but are considering extending it.

On a history forum I was on, a commenter called WWII carrier construction “The Essex class Pez dispenser”.

FTA: If the service were to use Puget Sound for the dismantlement, it estimates the work would not finish until between 2030 and 2040

This is the year 2023.... That is gov’t for you!!
Pulling the reactor should not take long. You know the navy figured on battle damage and would need to replace it if the ship did not sink so it must be fairly easy to remove.

I would just sink the whole ship as water would make for a radiation barrier. Sink the ship in a deep trench like off the east coast. The Puerto Rico trench is 27,480ft deep.

It would take a few days to to set the explosives then BANG!

I’m not so sure. I worry about our carriers being vulnerable to modern missiles and drones.

I think we do need more air power and submarines to take out long-range Chinese missiles and sink their ships/choke off their commerce respectively.

We have no business in a land war with them except to keep them out of South Korea and Taiwan, which I think both nations are more than capable of doing for themselves.

Our airpower has to have more stealth and long-range capabilities. Anti-radar going after missiles before trying to get air superiority. This is what we did in 1990-91 against Iraq. We took our time with the air campaign to degrade enemy capabilities. It was six weeks over Iraq; I expect 6 months over China.

Also, default on whatever debt with have with them. Stop their prolific shipping to the rest of the world, choke off their food and oil. They can’t do that to us as we have plenty of both. They would kill us on rare Earth metals and cheap products we don’t want to make, but both of these are something we need look at now. What really is critical that we get from them and where can we find alternatives or gear up to get those items ourselves? A smart DoD and President would be working on this now—which we don’t have—so we are screwed here.

Total war will see more actions like this than actually fighting.

Here’s to you FRiend.

I’ll hoist a cool one to you.

Here’s to hoping no one goes nuclear.

I feel jittery Joe would be the first to press the red button.
