Florida hospitals will now ask about your immigration status. What to know, how to answer
Miami Herald ^

Hospitals ask patients a lot of personal questions. Medical history? Medications? Preexisting conditions? Smoke, drink or do drugs?

As of Saturday, you’ll have one more question to answer: What’s your immigration status?

Florida hospitals that accept Medicaid will be required to query patients about that, although a person can decline to answer. The measure is just one of many in a new bill, SB 1718, approved by the Florida Legislature and signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in May to crack down on the flow of illegal immigration into the state.

The new law does not apply to other healthcare providers, including doctors offices and community health centers.

Here’s what the new bill will mean for your hospital care:

HOW WILL FLORIDA HOSPITALS ASK FOR IMMIGRATION STATUS?

Hospitals that accept Medicaid will have to include a question on their admission and registration forms asking if a patient is legally in the U.S. or not. The question will be asked to patients who visit the emergency department or are hospitalized.

Good, another DeSantis success. Now, if those who are illegal could be turned over and deported after getting medical treatment, that’d be sweet. A step at a time we are getting there. DeSantis has disallowed illegal alien drivers licenses, new requires eVerify, etc. All through legislation not EO dictates. Lasting successes.

Not much teeth in it. They are not required to answer the question.

Tell them that you are an illegal alien. You’ll get your treatments for free.

My local hospitals have been asking that question for years. It goes like this: Are you a US citizen?
A yes answer..you are here legally. Beyond that...I dunno.

Don’t forget to change the family’s sh*tty diapers before presenting at the emergency room. American Doctors and Nurses are NOT the Border Patrol.

As far as I am aware, even if you aren’t here legally, you have a right to life saving medìcal care as stated on the patients rights board on the wall.
What’s the point of pushing the issue if they can get foodstamps, medicaid, driver’s license, voter registration, housing and icè won’t send them home?

I can see .not giving away services reserved for citizens, but what might those be? So much is states controlling federal programs...

Boy, I guess the folks that wrote and passed the bill do t get any credit as usual, when it comes to DeSantis. It’s almost as if they don’t even exist.

As for his EVerify, it is t going to do much of it’s only for companies over 25 folks. A 24-man framing or concrete crew has nothing to worry about.

If Florida and DeSantis wanted to actually do something instead of thumping g their chests, look at us, they’d be unifying a bloc of Republican led states and pick-up on the Tennessee lawsuit concerning Medicaid payments for illegals.

But nope.

I saw Ben Berquem interviewing a bunch of illegals at a train station and he asked about a dozen or so where they’re going and about half said Florida. Most were Haitian.

If I go to any European country, and have not been paying into their nationalized healthcare system, I will be asked to guarantee payment or to pay first before I’m treated, or I’m out on the street.

A totally fair system.

The politicians in the USA are working hard to bankrupt the system and us by giving away free something that you and I worked hard for.
