We are talking tactics here—but my tactic is always to be as cooperative as possible.
The reason for that is that a lot of folks who say “no” have something to hide—not everybody—but a lot of folks.
Since my goal is to end the encounter as soon as possible I am hoping that my cooperative demeanor will be adequate to convince the cop not to search the car—so I can quickly get on my way.
Like any tactic there is no guarantee it will work—but I like the odds.
It is not my mission in life to educate cops on the niceties of the law.
Feel free to wait all day. Don’t you find some boots to lick? Perhaps you’re too busy trying to find vids of cops brutalizing citizens so you could act as a cheerleading squad for them. Did you not see the question mark at the end of my initial post? As a troll, you’re pretty weak.
It's selective enforcement because they can rather than common sense enforcement..
These aholes want support and respect from the communities they represent but they seem to be going out of their way to lose it.
Three Sundays ago myself and 7 other seniors, aged 68 - 89 were sitting at a picnic bench at a ball park in Warren, MI, with 5 of us having a beer like we have always done after playing softball in the morning for the past 20 years.
For no reason other than harassment, a Warren cop pulls up and tells us there is no alcohol allowed in the park. One of our participants walked over to explain to the officer we weren't causing any problems, nobody complained about us and we don't leave our trash behind.
The cop said "I have the authority, respect it....." Then he drove off.....
The ordinance preventing alcohol in Warren city parks was written to prevent kids from using the parks as party places where they can drink, get drunk and rowdy. Our softball group is 50 years beyond being kids, getting drunk and rowdy.
Our typical routine is to play softball, sit at the bench pass around chips and crackers and drink a beer or two. Then leave at 1:00 p.m. to go home and have lunch and take a nap........
Like I said, selective enforcement because they can, but enforcement without common sense.......

Oh, I get that. The one cop explained it. But why does it take about a dozen cops for this?
I find it hilarious when FReepers, who claim to support law and order, see a video and jump all over the cops who arresting someone for violating the law. But I guess you're all big fans of people who smoke weed in parks near kids. It's interesting to see how far the "back the blue" sentiment goes on this site.
