The Memo: DeSantis tries to shift narrative after campaign criticism

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and his allies are trying to change the narrative about a campaign that is widely seen as having underperformed so far.

DeSantis is drawing the support of about 1-in-4 Republican voters; he was backed by around 1-in-3 in mid-March.

As they seek to shift perceptions onto a more favorable footing, they stress a number of points, including that the campaign is at a very early stage; DeSantis is showing strength in fundraising; he has withstood a barrage of attacks from Team Trump with his favorability intact; and his record in Florida, both electorally and policy-wise, provides a template that can be replicated in the national race.

His fundraising with the elites is quite good.

If only he is able to snooker the little guys with enough conservative candy store Florida bills to put them back in the driver’s seat. Looks like they may have bet on a big ole lemon.

That is what the elites are after, the driver’s seat. The other candidates other than Vivek are well known used baggage backstabbers and have no chance at all.

desanctus is done in Florida...

There are no major insurance companies left in the Florida market, and there’s talk that next year, rates could be 150% of this year’s rates on property insurance alone.

And so far, desanctus is out campaigning, instead of trying to solve the problem.

What a shame. I wish he had talked to me before doing all this and listening to the Rinos.

What might the solution look like, to the property insurance problem being described here? Do any US states offer and adminster “pool” insurance to all applicants, not just the high risk uninsurable? I wonder if other socialist countries offer govt backed and run property insurance? Thise that still recognize private property rights....

He has little kids of his own and it seems that he is doing lots of stuff for kids. Which, don’t get me wrong, is real good thing, but he needs to get crackin for the rest of us. And yes the insurance coverage and rates are a problem…big time. Lots of folks are moving here but getting sticker shock over that.

I had almost 50% last year, and the agent couldn’t find anything else better.

And the agent said this year may not be better, as the remaining ones have said at least 25-30% increases.

and to be clear, the 150% increase means if the policy was $100 it could be $150 next year.

I probably should say almost no major insurance companies left in Florida..... they may continue existing policies, but don’t expect many new policies from them. infact, many companies are cancelling existing policies, and people are ending up on universal causality, sort of the insurer of last resort.
