United Methodists lose a fifth of US churches in schism driven by defiance of LGBTQ bans

More than 6,000 United Methodist congregations — a fifth of the US total — have received permission to leave the denomination amid a schism over theology and the role of LGBTQ people in the nation’s second-largest Protestant denomination.

Those figures emerge following the close of regular meetings in June for the denomination’s regional bodies, known as annual conferences.

The departures began with a trickle in 2019 — when the church created a four-year window of opportunity for US congregations to depart over LGBTQ-related issues — and cascaded to its highest level this year.

Church law forbids the marriage or ordination of “self-avowed, practicing homosexuals,” but many conservatives have chosen to leave amid growing defiance of those bans in many US churches and conferences.

Every Methodist church I drive by in my area has a rainbow flag and something about BLM

Most people don’t know how much it costs to run a church building.
This is the correct way to fix this problem.
Leave and take your checkbook with you.
The early church met in people’s homes.
If Christianity is going to move forward, this is the model.
Its just a really expensive building.

The problem here is that the queer ordination faction actually wants them to go so they finally have enough votes.

Once enough conservatives have left, they can then force it on everyone.

I kinda don’t believe the schism is driven by the bans.

This was why God left free will to man. Free will was an opportunity to strive under God’s rules or neglect them using man’s desire for the kingdom of heaven as the ultimate reward or, in this case, punishment. Luckily in the US religion is not suppressed and it is left up to the individual as to what beliefs they care to follow. And by the first amendment, if they stay within the confines of the suppression of others, he/she can reach that kingdom worshiping as they care to. People do not follow a religion unless they are unable to determine their beliefs. They can be in any church with God in their hearts and minds.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 NASBS
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, [4] and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

Any church with a rainbow flag out front is telling you that they are groomer-friendly. Stay away.

Visit the South. Scores are voting to disaffiliate. My congregation did.

Not a church. A Satanic Sodomite cult.

There won’t be any rainbow flags at any church in this county. Total population of the county is 18,000 and we have 16 Methodist churches. All conservative.

What do you think drives it?

(I've been very good this year, by the way)

Psycho-sexual arrested development is not an identity and is not normal.

“What do you think drives it?”

I think the schism is driven by the denomination leader’s LGBTQ approval.

From what I understand, which may not be enough, those who disapprove of the LGBTQ lifestyle are breaking away from those who now approve of it, not the other way around.

The Reformation never made total sense as sincere reformers could have worked things out. They never did “want to work things out.”
They all just wanted to be the Pope of their new “religion.”
Ask Martin and Henry about that.

The main demographic of liberal churches is over the age of 70. This will not age well.

They had a worldwide vote and decided AGAINST gay marriage, but the liberal churches in the US chose to ignore it.

The school platform for their ministry, went left in the 1980s. Propaganda and lectures set them up for this fall. As older members died off, they kept thinking younger crowd would lean left. That concept failed.
