Samuel L. Jackson: Trump Like ‘Same Rednecks’ I Saw Growing Up ‘Who Called Me N****r’
Breitbart ^ | 21 Jun 2023 | PAUL BOIS

Posted on 06/21/2023 8:51:19 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

Actor Samuel L. Jackson likened former President Donald Trump to the “same rednecks” that hurled racist slurs at him during his youth. Even though he grew up under segregation, which means that he would have likely been governed by Jim Crow-era Democrats, Jackson said that Donald Trump and the Republican Party represent what he grew up under.

“When I see Trump, I see the same rednecks I saw when I was growing up who called me ‘n*****’ and tried to keep me in my place. That’s what the Republican Party is to me. They’re doing it to young people, gay people. They don’t care who you are. If you’re not them, you’re the enemy,” Jackson told Rolling Stone.

Jackson’s comments on Trump came after he reflected upon being an usher at Martin Luther King Jr.’s funeral following the Civil Rights leader’s assassination.

“The world seems to be in as hard a place as it’s always been. As a child of the Sixties, watching what happened at the 1968 Democratic Convention, and seeing the police beating those demonstrators — and those were young white kids — I learned there’s a certain kind of thing that the powers that be don’t want us doing,” Jackson said.

“One of them is protesting what they think they want us to do,” he continued. “So, when George Floyd happened, it was great to see all the different faces of kids out there fighting the injustice and what the power was doing once again to keep you from having an open mind or keep you from creating change that is not the change they want made.”

People probably don’t realize how artsy and soft his early life was and then how flamboyantly militant and drama queenish it was later.

Wikipedia:
“He played the French horn, piccolo, trumpet, and flute in the school orchestra. He developed a stutter during childhood and learned to “pretend to be other people who didn’t stutter”. He still uses the word “motherfucker” to get through a speech block. He still has days where he stutters.
Initially intent on pursuing a degree in marine biology, he attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. After joining a local acting group to earn extra points in a class, he found an interest in acting and switched his major. Before graduating in 1972, he co-founded the Just Us Theatre.

After Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination in 1968, Jackson attended King’s funeral in Atlanta as one of the ushers. He then travelled to Memphis, Tennessee, to join an equal rights protest march. In a 2005 Parade interview, he said, “I was angry about the assassination, but I wasn’t shocked by it. I knew that change was going to take something different—not sit-ins, not peaceful coexistence.”

In 1969, Jackson and several other students held members of the Morehouse College board of trustees (including Martin Luther King Sr.) hostage on the campus, demanding reform in the school’s curriculum and governance. The college eventually agreed to change its policy, but Jackson was charged with and eventually convicted of unlawful confinement, a second-degree felony. He was suspended for two years for his criminal record and his actions. He would later return to the college to earn a BA in drama in 1972. While he was suspended, he took a job as a social worker in Los Angeles. He decided to return to Atlanta, where he met with Stokely Carmichael, H. Rap Brown, and others active in the Black Power movement. He began to feel empowered with his involvement in the movement, especially when the group began buying guns. However, before he could become involved with any significant armed confrontations, his mother sent him to Los Angeles after the FBI warned her that he would die within a year if he remained with the group. In a 2018 interview with Vogue, he denied having been a member of the Black Panther Party.”

Sam, you remind me of kids I went to school with who tried to engage in religious arguments.

They ran into trouble because while they usually knew their religion (some what) they had never studied any other. In other words their knowledge was shallow. When they ran up against students who studied "religions" rather then "religion" they got their tails handed to them. Neatly sliced and with a relish on top.

You are a shallow thinker Sam. You should try to read the other guy's point of view. Maybe it has no merit beyond learning what errors they commit. But that is very valuable knowledge.

What an imbecile. Trump is not a racist and has never done or said anything that can be construed as racist.

Samuel isn’t alone on this. I was targeted continuously in High School, by everybody! I was the FNG. Regretfully I had to thump quite a few heads before they left me alone, and I really am not proud of that but I was forced into either taking control of a situation, and there were many situations, or getting bloodied.

Why my dad chose to live in that area is beyond me... but it’s water under the bridge. Nobody respected me, nobody even knew me, but after a while they knew not to mess with me because I wasn’t going down easy.

Sammy might have had an out, and he didn’t grow because of it.

I hated high school. As soon as I left high school and went to college everything changed, when I went in the military everything really changed, for the better.

Dude

You are so past your “best if used by” date.

There was a time when racist A-holes created rules and laws to seperate others based on the color of their skin and the indifference to it en masse by the larger population was not helpful.

These days there are still bigoted and racists A-hole but, the larger American population, en masse, will not tolerate their hateful speech, thoughts and actions.

They will be immediately called out and rightfully shunned.

gnikcuF hate racists....

Oh, and you are a real jerk these days...

We are the same people who have enjoyed your movies and commercials for years. You are wealthy because we liked you and this is how you repay us?

FU
