Pennsylvania launches 24/7 livestream of I-95 reconstruction

All construction, all the time!

Pennsylvania officials have launched a 24/7 livestream of the I-95 overpass reconstruction efforts following the busy highway’s fiery collapse in northeast Philadelphia.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation put up the video stream on Thursday morning, showing off the crews, cranes and trucks on the ground clearing the debris after a tanker explosion burned down a northbound overpass and destabilized the opposite southbound lanes.

“To chart our progress and give everyone a sense of timing, we’re launching our 24/7 livestream where you can watch I-95 get rebuilt,” Gov. Josh Shapiro tweeted. “Government is working for the good people of Pennsylvania.”

There is currently one camera set up overlooking the work on the Milnor Street ramp, with other angles of the construction expected to be up and running.

That’s just security footage to track down the theft of cranes, skidsteers, air compressors, dump trucks, and traffic barriers.

If they work around the clock 24/7 and provide bonuses for early completion, we might be surprised. Years ago, I saw that happen with the reconstruction of Earthquake shattered Freeways in Northridge CA. If PA does that, we could all be surprised.

Not entirely nothing. After all, they do have to set up the “Men At Work” sign. ;-)

In the rebuilding of the Northridge CA Freeway years ago, the Govt. and the Unions reached a mutual agreement to waive all the usual obstacles and work around the clock 24/7 with some progress milestones that paid bonuses if achieved early. I can attest as a commuter at that time that it worked.

Being democrats, they will provide the requisite strong arm to stop the eco nazis from filing the requisite lawsuits that would ordinarilly keep such a project in limbo for several centuries.

Its going to be a 24/7 livestream of nothing happening.

After reconstruction is complete, someone will make a 90 second time-lapse video of the whole event which will be interesting.

Here's one from Connecticut that may be similar to what they'll do in Pennsylvania. The special machine used to lift the bridge sections into place is pretty neat.

There will be about 80 highway workers standing around watching one crane operator move the replacement piece in that arrived on on a truck with one driver.

currently watching the live-stream.

on 2023-06-15, at 1654, the it shows machinery cleaning debris from the site of the former overpass. All sections of the overpass have been demolished.

It is NOT a livestream of “nothing happening”.

Soot on the retaining walls suggests that they may have to be demolished and replaced before the bridges themselves can be replaced.

In the past 45 minutes or so, a huge pile of mangled rebar has been picked up, jammed into dump trucks, and hauled away.
