Southern Baptists vote to expel two churches led by female pastors

The Southern Baptist Convention announced Wednesday it has voted overwhelmingly to finalize the expulsion of two churches from the nation's largest Protestant denomination for having female pastors.

And the vote wasn't even close, according to the SBC's tally.

Spurred on by arch-conservatives in the SBC, the 12,000 or so "messengers" who had gathered at their annual meeting in New Orleans voted by a 9-to-1 margin to seal the exit of California's Saddleback Church and a smaller congregation in Kentucky.

That vote, which was conducted Tuesday, set the stage for another vote Wednesday to amend the SBC's constitution to specify that Southern Baptists churches must “affirm, appoint or employ only men as any kind of pastor or elder as qualified by Scripture.”

That too passed with a two-thirds majority and will go into effect after it is approved at the next annual SBC meeting.

Sarah Clatworthy, a member of Lifepoint Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas, who has called on the SBC “to shut the door to feminism and liberalism," said she supported the ban on woman pastors.

“We should leave no room for our daughters and granddaughters in the generations ahead to have confusion on where the SBC stands,” she said. “Let them know Scripture is our authority and not the culture.”

Is there any label more conservative than arch-conservative?

Women pastors are the slippery slope towards becoming a secular social club rather than a Christian church.

Saddleback?

Isn’t that that silly Rick Warren Purpose-Driven Life pop pastor?

They got kicked out for having a woman?

Wow, I’m loving this.

It is a signpost for me.

I honestly am not real sure that women cannot (had a real good one in my first regular church who was better than the man), but I do know if women are pastors 95% it is going to be a liberal church that is going to do all kinds of apostasy, including the fag flag open celebration.

Women pastors are the slippery slope towards becoming a secular social club rather than a Christian church.

Other points along the slope:

Acceptance of artificial birth control.

Acceptance of divorce and remarriage after divorce.

Acceptance of abortion with few restrictions.

In denominations with female clergy a high percentage of the pastorettes have been divorced and a significant number have had abortions.

It is Biblical; a husband of 1 woman, etc in second Timothy

As a woman, I will respectfully disagree.

Men are called upon by God to be leaders. They readily embrace tenets and hold the line on teaching.

Women are peacemakers by nature and more prone to find “common ground.”

In the war against sin, there is no common ground.

Give me a godly man in the pulpit any day of the week. There are others roles women can fill. This is not one of them.

Nowhere in the Bible are women told to stand before the congregation to teach.

Rather, the apostle Paul instructed them to “keep quiet in the meetings.”

One reason, he wrote, is so that things would be done “in a proper and orderly way.”
(1 Corinthians 14:34, 40, Today’s English Version)

For the congregation to run smoothly, God has assigned the role of teaching to one group.

Note, though, that a person is not granted the privilege of oversight in the congregation simply because he is a male; it is granted only to those men who truly qualify.
1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9.

Let’s just say, I’d ASSume it is sarcastic irony. But, it can be wrong. No harm no foul. I just don’t like someone to be wrongly libeled.
