Former President Donald Trump deployed a novel strategy Tuesday against charges of mishandling classified documents: the “Clinton Socks” defense.
He mentioned the “Clinton socks” precedent in remarks to supporters at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. And — as Scott Adams first pointed out — of all the alleged false claims that CNN pointed out in its “fact check” of his speech, the “Clinton socks” defense was curiously absent.
That is because it is a particularly strong defense — and, of course, because it points to the fact that the Clintons — both Bill and Hillary — took government documents home with them without being prosecuted for doing so.

And here I thought this was going to be about the only innocent Clinton . . . Socks the Cat.
Stupid headline.
He’s not using any defense, he using a judge’s RULING!
Sock it to em Trump
And I bet that most of the documents Trump had were Crossfire Hurricane documents that showed the Hillary-Russia-FIB collusion-hoax and the FIB was desperate to get them back. I hope Trump made copies and stored them elsewhere.
Also, the judge's ruling is based on Article II Section 1 of the Constitution. A president has the executive power to determine what are presidential vs. personal records.
Sandy Burglar took classified docs from the National Archive back in 2003 and got off with a slap on the wrist.
Sandy Berger-2003
Fifty-eight year old Sandy Berger, the former National Security Adviser under the Clinton Administration, illegally took classified documents from the National Archives on more than one occasion. During his visits to the Archives, it was determined that Berger folded the documents in his clothes, walked out of the National Archives building in Washington, D.C., and placed them under a nearby construction trailer for retrieval later on. Two years later Berger was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and probation and fined $50,000. He also also had to pay $6,905 for the administrative costs of his two-year probation. Berger also lost his security clearance and license to practice law.

Mike Pence had classified docs and he wasn’t prosecuted for it.
Same with Hillary and POTUS Biden.
How many have done the same that we aren’t aware of and haven’t been prosecuted for it?
The Presidential Records Act defense should have been raised LAST YEAR. Trump was served with a subpoena in MAY....Why did he (through his legal team) not object back then?
As I’ve said repeatedly, Donald Trump has consistently had the worst lawyers ever.
If I recall correctly, Clinton’s guy, Sandy Berger, smuggled out documents of the National Archives, which were not flattering to the Clinton administration, as people were looking into documents from the time period leading up to September 11th.
I have been asking myself that question all day.
If it’s true that he was legally entitled to take these things with him, why did he not fight the subpoena?
Why only partially comply with the subpoena?
Why hand DOJ/FBI a statement saying they a search was conducted and there’s nothing left to find?

Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit for Pres. Clinton’s record and lost because of the Presidential Records Act.
That’s what this is referring to. It’s a long Tweet but sums up what happened.
“As I’ve said repeatedly, Donald Trump has consistently had the worst lawyers ever.”
Because they can get a pay check from two parties, and the other party pays more than Trump does.
I don’t think it was offered up as a defense. It was offered up as facts regarding the Clintons who do the same thing and face no charges, which clearly highlights the two-tiered political system being applied.
But Trump is being nailed on the Espionage Act.
Will the Socks case Judges ruling be enough to dismiss that Espionage Act charge?
You seem to think this is about law and justice.
Sandy Burglar was totally different because though he stuffed documents in his underwear, he wasn’t flagrantly being orange and thus bad
It is that simple.
Should the Deep State allow a living Donald Trump to return to the presidency, Trump will fire tens of thousands of embedded rats in the administrative state.
The ensuing court battle will re-stablish or not the Constitutional authority of the President over the executive branch.
If you read the leftist Judge’s ruling and opinion, it decimates turd Smith’s case. It also exposes the cheap trick that Smith employed with the Grand Jury by completely ignoring the precedent and hiding it from the Grand Jury.
Trump holds a mirror at the left and they are still confused.
