Former President Donald Trump claimed the straw poll at the Western Conservative Summit on Saturday barely 24-hours after his federal indictment was publicly unsealed.

He surged past Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, his nearest challenger for the GOP 2024 presidential nomination, by 40.3 percent to 35.8 percent, the Washington Examiner reports.

Considering the national polls that show Trump leads by 20-30%, this poll of Republicans is remarkably quite close as almost within the margin of error. And about 25% for others or undecided or none of the above, I guess.

Anyway, good news for both candidates, the campaign is just getting started.

And how the heck did a title writer come up with “Surges Past”? That’s less than 5% and Trump was already ahead. Maybe a better title would have been “DeSantis Catching Up to Trump in Colorado Conservative Straw Poll”.

Barely...But, he didn’t there in 2015 and Ted Cruz won the Colorado straw poll that year.

Maybe it IS a surge, when it's a straw poll šŸ˜‚

Meanwhile....even SeeBS has to admit the surge.....

IMHO: Trump is districted.

They’re having some success with all the law suits, investigations, media buzz... It’ll go no where in the end, but the idea is to suck up his time, money, staff and all the press is negative, negative, negative.

I think the Dems would be happy with a De Santis. He’s the easier candidate for them.

Trump will need to Blitzkrieg on DeSantis.

the colorado gop is hopeless, powerless, and useless ... also corrupt ... the first time Trump ran, the GOP party poobahs had the caucuses totally rigged for Cruz ... (the Dems actually rigged their caucuses too then) ... the rigging was so outrageous in both cases that constitutional amendments were subsequently passed by the voters to strip most of the party-power from the caucuses and require bonafide primary elections ...

colorado is also hopeless for conservatives due to decades of leftist locusts fleeing california after they strip-mined that state’s livability ...

Could be. Especially if all Trump supporters refuse to vote for DeSantis if he wins the nomination.

Some on this site say they will do a write-in vote, or vote Democrat, if Trump is not the nominee.

It’s Colorado and bad news for Ron.
Educate yourself:

Donald Trump edges Ron DeSantis in Colorado conservative straw poll for first time in 3 years

Jesse SchecknerJune 11, 2023

The former President scored 4.5 percentage points more than Floridaā€™s Governor.

It doesnā€™t appear Donald Trumpā€™s recent indictment is hurting him among Colorado conservatives.

In fact, it appears to be helping.

After two years of narrowly losing to Gov. Ron DeSantis, Trump took the top spot Saturday in a straw poll at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver...

Trump will need to Blitzkrieg on DeSantis.

Why? In the national election, sure, but in the primaries, no way? Every time that Trump or his minions bad mouths a fellow Republican or supporter of a fellow Republican, that is less votes, less enthusiastic votes that Trump might get. And for independents or wavering Democrats, they won't want any part of this.

Seriously, we have two candidates, fairly similar stances, very different approaches, ones an enterainer, the other a technocrat. Let's have a clean race, pull the party together, not play scorched earth destruction within the party.

“How, exactly, do you barely surge past...?”

I had to laugh. I just read a home’s description in a real estate ad: “cozy electric fireplace”.

Do people even think about what they write?

Reno doesn’t know what he is talking about. Trump was losing and now he is up 5 points. First time in 3 years. That is a surge. Very bad sign for Team Desantis. This was supposed to be one of the states for their long haul delegate strategy against Trump. Trump polled in 3rd here in 2015.

Trump will need to Blitzkrieg on DeSantis.

So Trump has a healthy lead on all and needs to "Blitzkrieg on DeSantis." Did this really make sense to you when you wrote it?

I am posting in a thread that claims “40.3 percent to 35.8 percent”.

Did you really need help with that?
