Alan Dershowitz: Trump indictment doesn't pass the Richard Nixon test
Fox Business ^ | 06/09/2023 | Kristen Altus

Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz warned of the "dangerous" consequences posed by the federal charges launched against former President Donald Trump, arguing the indictment's "weak" appearance does not meet historic precedent.

"It has to be at least as strong as the case against Richard Nixon, which we will remember led not to Democrats to demand his resignation, but Republicans, his own colleagues came to him and said, this case is so strong that we can't support you," Dershowitz said Friday on "Mornings with Maria."

"I haven't seen any suggestion that Republicans agree with this indictment," the professor continued.

Trump himself announced the indictment Thursday on his social media platform, Truth Social. Seven federal charges have emerged out of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s months-long investigation, and reportedly involve obstruction of justice, conspiracy and illegal retention of classified government material.

So only if the two corrupt and cowardly elite parties agree on something we can meekly accept it as given the seal of approval?

We can think for ourselves.

At least on this forum.

Dershowitz must be separating the RINOs from the Real-Conservatives; two different Gangs.
I’m certain there are several RINOs popping their champagne corks in jubillant celebration right now, thinking Trump’s electoral potentials are now truly ground down into the blackened dusts of history.
Ask them, and they will tell you.

Why does Fox put this Epstein Island resident on the air all the time? He’s a slime ball trying to make MAGA look bad by association in my opinion. Or just a grifter trying to make money.

I think a lot of banana republic dictators and henchmen would be slightly embarrassed at how trashy this country Left is acting to take down their opponent.🍌🍌

By the way, a thought came to me. Many banana republics last a short time. I don’t know if Cuba counts. Some histories of the ones below our southern border have long lists of dictators who were ushered out (some in a final fashion).⚰️⚰️

That’s why fair elections (remember them?) work out better.

It’s a case about boxes.

Aside from the subject matter and the persons involved...I'm not seeing how this makes sense - an indictment to be legitimate has to be agreed upon by those of certain political persuasions? So if Republicans *do* agree with it, it magically becomes more legitimate than before?

Many banana republics last a short time.

Our government toppled many banana republics and good ones too. The world would be very different if our government hadn't overthrown the Shah of Iran, President Sukarno and Saddam Hussein.

I’m not listening to any more of these “brilliant” lawyers until and unless they step up to take these cases against Trump pro bono and put their reputation where their mouth is. The Democrats seem to have plenty of attorneys doing their bidding just for the publicity, but we Republicans have to cough up 7 figures to get representation for obviously improper lawsuits. It’s time for all the Conservative lawyers to step up and start suing and/or filing charges against every Democrat they possibly can. Anyone? Anyone???

Can ‘t forget Donald Sutherland as the mysterious Mr.X in the movie JFK. His list of intelligence agent interventions to topple regimes was impressive.

What offense would be outrageous enough to cause the Dems to tell one of their presidents to resign? A recorded telephone call offering Xi our nuclear codes? Child sacrifice to Satan on the White House lawn? I can’t imagine anything egregious enough.

The only thing I remember about Watergate is that Hillary Clinton was told she was nuts when she suggested something “unconstitutional” to get rid of Nixon.

Yep. All former Presidents should be scared to death of this. There is no guarantee that the next President will be a Democrat. This gives the power to the executive branch to go full banana republic.

The case against Nixon was relatively weak compared to what we know about what Clinton and Obama did without much challenge.
