Former President Donald Trump continues to lead in the polls over other Republican contenders for president in 2024, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
According to a new Echelon Insights poll, in a contest against seven other GOP rivals, Trump garnered 49 percent support with DeSantis following with 19 percent support. In a two-way match-up, Trump received 59 percent support against DeSantis' 34 percent.
DeSantis announced his entry into the GOP primary on Wednesday via a Twitter space.
Days before his declaration, a new CNN and SSRS poll found that the Florida governor is half as popular as former President Trump among Republican voters.
In a recent Wall Street Journal poll, GOP primary voters opted for Trump with 51 percent support while the Florida governor garnered 38 percent. In another survey, a Yahoo News/YouGov had Trump getting 57 percent support of those polled and DeSantis getting 31 percent, while a Harvard/Harris poll showed 50 percent of voters noting Trump would likely beat Desantis if the GOP primary happened today.
Trump has surged ahead of other potential GOP candidates, according to other recent polls from Harvard-Harris and Morning Consult.
According to the Echelon Insights poll, Trump holds a sizeable lead over other GOP candidates with former Vice President Mike Pence getting 19 percent support, Vivek Ramaswamy with 8 percent, Tim Scott with 2 percent, and both Chris Christie and Larry Elder getting 1 percent.
In the same poll, 73 percent of those polled said the country is on the wrong track. 58 percent said they "strongly/ somewhat disapprove" of Joe Biden's job as president.
The poll asked respondents, "If the 2024 presidential election were being held today, [who] would you vote for…," with 46 percent putting Joe Biden at "definitely/ probably" and 44 percent doing the same for Trump.
The poll was conducted May 22-35, with an estimated 3.9 percentage point margin of error across 1,035 likely voters.
The bottom line, Trump is annihilating DeSantis in all these polls. And that’s by people who are aware he could be indicted. Apparently they’ve made their choice.
“Rob announced he’s in!
He’s surging in the polls like a moon shot now!
OBVIOUSLY, this poll is FAKE!!”

But do polls matter?
Some people say polls just don’t matter, at least this far in advance of the primaries.
With these poll numbers, Team Ron may be planning to have circles at their rallies.
If the GOPe can rig the primaries like Team Biden rigged the last election, then blank spaces at rallies won’t really matter.
Surges ahead? From what I’ve read he’s always been ahead and by large margins.
>> But do polls matter?
Polls that wobble back and forth between two candidates, close to or within the margin of error, where each candidate has less than 50%, probably don’t tell us much.
On the other hand...
Poll after poll after poll that show one candidate absolutely creaming a half dozen other candidates — with a 60% share and a closest competitor about half that — in my opinion ARE indicative, even at this early stage.
Welp I guess it’s settled then. When will these never Trumper DeSantis supporting trolls finally give up? They are delusional and unable to accept reality apparently.
Polls wobble but they don't fall down.
“But do polls matter?”
Polls don’t matter when a race is competitive.
In this primary election, poll after poll is showing a blowout. DeSantis should take a hint:
As the season goes on it’s getting worse for him, not better
This is the pre-season, pre-season records don’t matter.
How the World Reported Ron’s Twitter Space ‘DeSaster’.
From another article.
I think desaster is clever.
>> pre-season records don’t matter
Pre-season injuries do!
Touché!
I’ve fallen in the polls and I can’t get up!
I’m sure DeSNchez will think of something to snag the maga vote from Trump
Lol
‘But do polls matter?’
polls are Holy Writ when they say what we want them to say...otherwise, they’re garbage...
