Progressives who’d decided that “soft on crime” is a winning message in urban America got a well-deserved wake-up call Tuesday, as Philadelphia Democrats tapped Cherelle Parker as their nominee, and so near-certain to become the city’s 100th mayor.
Like our own Mayor Eric Adams, Parker won voters over with her promise to address public safety and quality of life concerns. She explicitly vowed to restore stop-question-and-frisk (conducted constitutionally) as a policing tactic and to get more beat officers on street patrol.
The progressive darling was Helen Gym, backed by Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. City Comptroller Brad Lander traveled to Philly to campaign with and for Gym.

Yep, Philly did good.
It just so happened that the black woman was the least socialist of that crew. Philadelphia is much more black than it is white or asian. Read anything more into that result at your own peril because it's dumb to go any farther than that.
It’s insane. This woman is not a prog like water is not wet.
They elected the socialist who pretended she would be tough on crime.
A Rat is a Rat is a Rat!
eric adams promised law and order too
havent seen any real results
Sadly, that’s right.
Well, I am not arguing I am a fan of Adams, but he is fighting on some issues. But he does control the prosecutors and he doesn’t control Albany.
Seriously?
Did you follow the election? Adams was running against an ultra progressive. He ran on being a former cop and being tough on crime. And his opponent pretty much ceded that ground.
Like our own Mayor Eric Adams, Parker won voters over with her promise to address public safety and quality of life concerns. …Adams did nothing of the kind.
I followed the election. I also found out what Adams was before that election. He was exactly equal to the so-called “ultra-progressive” (which is a meaningless term now). Anyone who believed his lies is now reaping the proverbial whirlwind.
Also, “ultra-progressive” Kathryn Garcia landed on her feet, now serving as Hochul’s Director of State Operations.
I don’t live in NY. You would have voted for Garcia?
That was the Democratic primary. Adams’ opponent was Curtis Sliwa.
And on election night Sliwa supported Adam’s and called on his supporters to support Adams.
A political concession speech doesn’t turn Adams into something he isn’t.
In the same speech, Sliwa said the deck was stacked against him.
There’s a reason why NYC now has RCV for mayorals...
Too late democrat voters. You have already destroyed society and you should be punished for being useful idiots.
