Court requests The Covenant School mass shooter's unredacted manifesto for review

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--A judge has called on the Nashville government to provide unredacted copies of a mass school shooter's manifesto for review by the court.

The call for documents comes as part of the Tennessee Firearms Association (TFA) lawsuit against the city regarding the release of the manifesto belonging to The Covenant School shooter Audrey Hale.

Hale took the lives of three 9-year-old children and three adult staff members on March 27 of this year. The TFA, alongside former Hamilton County Sheriff James Hammond, filed a lawsuit against the government with the hopes of a court order to disclose the manifesto .

There is no reason to continue to hide these documents from the public. Unless the government officials do not want the people to see who was influencing the shooter.

There is only one reason for the court to block release of the manifesto. That is if the Audrey Hale was alive and going to face trial. The release of the manifesto would contaminate the jury pool with prejudicial information. (As much as you might think that’s a good thing it isn’t the way our justice system works.) Since Hale is dead the only reason...not saying it’s a valid reason...is to protect some political party/position.

Last week, the Chancery Court issued a hearing timeline for both parties involved in the suit. The court has ordered the city to "begin to deliver sealed unredacted copies of the documents" to be discussed in a camera review for the Chancellor as the documents are prepared. The city is expected to begin delivery to the court starting on Friday (May 12).
