Putin’s embarrassing one-tank parade hints at catastrophic losses in Ukraine
Atlantic Council ^ | 9th May 2023 | Peter Dickinson

It would be hard to image a more fitting symbol of Russia’s declining military fortunes than the sight of a solitary Stalin-era tank trundling across Red Square during the country’s traditional Victory Day celebrations on May 9. For the past two decades, Vladimir Putin has used Victory Day to showcase modern Russia’s resurgence as a military superpower, with dozens of the very latest tanks typically taking part in each annual parade. This year, however, the only tank on display was a T-34 model dating back to World War II.

Inevitably, the embarrassing absence of tanks at this year’s Victory Day parade has been widely interpreted as further evidence of Russia’s catastrophic losses in Ukraine. Social media was soon buzzing with posts poking fun at the Kremlin. “Modern Russian military equipment can be found much more easily at Ukrainian military trophy exhibitions than at the Victory Parade in Moscow,” noted the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s official Twitter account. Others were less subtle. “There was one tank at the parade in Moscow! We laugh all over Ukraine,” posted Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko. “There are farmers in Ukraine with more tanks than that,” quipped another Twitter user.

Tuesday’s one-tank parade was the latest in a series of blows that had already cast a shadow over preparations for this year’s Victory Day celebrations. In the month preceding the holiday, more than twenty cities across Russia canceled plans to hold military parades. While security concerns were officially cited, these cancellations fueled speculation that Russia simply doesn’t have enough military equipment available to stage regional parades, with the vast majority of tanks and other vehicles having already been sent to Ukraine.

SOME MISCELLANEOUS BUT SALIENT OBSERVATIONS ABOUT THE WAR IN UKRAINE

At the start of the “Special Military Operation” more than a year ago, the Ukrainian Army outnumbered the Russians by a factor of three. Even with their advantage in numbers, the Ukrainian defenses failed to stop the numerically inferior Russian force and failed to expel the Russians from the Luhansk and Donetsk territories.

We now are being enticed to believe that Ukraine, with a numerically inferior force compared to Russia’s current troop deployment, is going to mount an offensive, despite a severe lack of tanks, armored vehicles, mobile artillery and air cover, that will drive the Russians from fortifications erected during the last six months.

Ukrainian officials persist in making wild claims about Russian defeats, low morale and catastrophic casualties. There is a very simple test you can do to evaluate the Ukrainian claim about Russia’s losses — find the social media and count the photos and videos. If Russia had suffered the number of killed and wounded cited by Ukrainian and Western officials and pundits, then it would be impossible to hide those photos and videos. Social media and smart phones are ubiquitous and grieving wives, girl friends, parents and friends are not easy to corral.

Images and videos like the following are widely available on Ukrainian Telegram channels. The opposite is true when it comes to finding comparable material on Russian channels. There are a few photos of newly dug graves in a Russian military cemetery, but nothing like the quantity of images recording Ukraine losses.

Polish General Skyrzypczak:

https://sonar21.com/polish-generals-finally-admit-the-obvious/

“Ukraine does not have the potential to take back 20% of its territories. If she were to re-take them, she would need a 3-1 advantage over the Russian army along the entire front on the strategic level, she would need around 2 million soldiers to rout them. They have no chance of this because they do not have the equipment. The plants in the West have no such possibilities, such potential. Hence the efforts on the part of the diplomats to end this conflict as it could turn out in a few months that we will not have anything to help Ukraine with.”

Would be better if it were a one-man parade.

There were plenty of ICBMs in the parade. Why focus on the tank?

Because Russia has not been depleting its arsenal of ICBMs during its bloody invasion of Ukraine.

Because Russia has been depleting its reserves of tanks during its bloody invasion of Ukraine.

Make sense now?

We focus on the solitary tank because it is tanks that Russia is running out of!

Ukrainian Defense Minister: there are doubts that Russian nuclear weapons are in working condition
UAWire
Monday, May 1, 2023 6:50:00 PM

There are doubts about the state of Russian nuclear weapons, since last tests were carried out in 1998, said Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov on Ukrainian national TV.

According to him, the nuclear weapons, and carriers that Ukraine gave Russia in the 1990s reached their storage life in 1997.

“Then they could upgrade and modify them, but formally their shelf life was reached then. Plus, Ukrainian factories manufactured many components. We no longer help them,” Reznikov said.

The Ukrainian Defense Minister added that Russia did the last test of nuclear weapons in 1998 at a test site in Kazakhstan. According to Reznikov, one can doubt that Russian nuclear weapons are currently in a working condition.

He also recalled that during US President Joe Biden’s visit to Kyiv, Russia was scheduled to test a new missile as a show of force. The test failed, and Putin was forced to change his speech to the Russian Federal Assembly.

So, you depict the invader and the defender as being morally equal. That means you are covering for the invader. Ukraine is fighting for its survival. Russia is making another land grab as it did when it invaded the Republic of Georgia. You are a Putin pal period.

Well at least none of the male soldiers are wearing female uniforms and the tank does not have a rainbow flag on it!

So by your “logic” we have a thug Biden regime and it would be okay to invade us. Ukraine is a wonderful country. lt is fighting for freedom. Its army is brave and intrepid. You are a cowardly weasel for not recognizing that.

Point of fact it’s a T34/85. T34 chasiss with an 85mm main gun.

In other WW2 observances 83 years ago today Nazi Germany invaded Holland , Luxembourg and France culminating in a stunning defeat of the French Army which at the time had been considered the largest and finest in the world.
