Ron DeSantis Signs Anti-Crime Legislation in the Sunshine State, Reforms Death Penalty

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Monday signed anti-crime legislation in the Sunshine State, designed to build upon the policies that led to the state’s 50-year record low crime rate.

The bill itself builds upon past legislation by, in part, putting in place additional penalties for fentanyl and drug-related crimes and reforming the state’s death penalty statute. DeSantis teased the latter move earlier this year, expressing a desire to reform the death penalty statute by eliminating the need for a unanimous jury decision.

Today, I signed legislation that will: – Makes child rapists eligible for the death penalty with the minimum sentence of life in prison without parole – Impose additional penalties on fentanyl and drug-related crimes targeted at children – Protect Floridians from disastrous… pic.twitter.com/sO1mkcfm0a

Florida has a crime rate at a 50 year low... and DeSantis did that by being tough on criminals and dumping Soros evil 'prosecutors'... Best. Governor. Ever. DeSantis '28

(Sarcasm, in case anybody was wondering. These days, ya never know ... But there are a few knuckleheads here who thing a flat out ban on abortion after 6 weeks gestation is somehow "pro abortion".)

I wish I had a Governor like that.

But I’m gonna stay in PA, where my kids and family are.

Yes I recall that as well.

There were people, here on Free Republic, who said that DeSantis was too liberal on abortion by signing that law. They took the position that he should have held out for an absolute ban on abortion.

https://floridianpress.com/2023/05/desantis-signs-bill-into-law-that-imposes-death-penalty-on-child-rapists/

“Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed into law CS/CS/HB 1297 – Capital Sexual Battery bill, the legislative measure that allows the death penalty to be allowed for individuals convicted of committing sexual battery on children, or child rapists, under the age of 12 years old.”

https://floridianpress.com/2023/05/florida-hospitals-press-ahead-with-controversial-dei-training-in-spite-of-stop-woke-act/

“The Floridian recently reported on DEI training being used at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, but that it is optional for employees. Now we have learned that Memorial Healthcare System in Hollywood, Florida, which has an office dedicated to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, is holding employee networking events that divide people based on race, gender, and sexual orientation.”

DeSantis is going to have to make believers out of these “woke” hospitals. Dividing events based on race and gender is discriminatory.

They took the position that he should have held out for an absolute ban on abortion.

What those people DON'T say is that the previous law was a post-15 week ban.

Now ... my position is an outright ban, death penalty for the "doctors" and serious prison time for the "mothers" and anyone who conspires with them.

But I'll take what I can get.

Because Trump is a petulant, narcissistic boorish man child who attacked our 2nd Amendment by banning bump stocks?

Time to disband the circular firing squad. Trump was politically inexperienced in his first term, and he had a bad Senate for appointments; so can cut him some slack even while defending DeSantis.

That’s one reason why we lose. The stiffnecks can’t deal in incrementalism. It always has to be an all or nothing proposition
