With their decision to take Tucker Carlson’s show off the air, Fox News’s Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch have failed to account for media and political dynamics that have, over a period of years, shifted under their feet. The Murdochs’ decision will inevitably prove catastrophic for Fox News and will likely be an inflection point that marks a wholesale change to a media landscape that, to paraphrase Matt Taibbi, has calcified in progressive concrete.
The philosopher George Santayana famously opined that “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” That is not quite true—just ask the French, who, circa 1940, were fully prepared to refight World War I. The real lesson of history is that anyone who ignores history in context is doomed to failure. Such is the situation with Fox News.
Rupert Murdoch launched Fox News in 1996. The late Charles Krauthammer, often a guest on Fox News, once quipped that Murdoch saw a “niche” market opportunity in the U.S. for conservative news, with the niche amounting to “half the country.” Over the past 27 years, Fox News lucratively occupied that niche as the only viable broadcast media source for center-right news and opinion. It grew to be the dominant news source in the cable market.
The world has changed dramatically since 1996, though, and no more so than in the last seven years. Trump’s election in 2016 tore off the last vestiges of moderate camouflage shielding the progressive cancer that infects America.

Whatever association I had with Fox News is now dead!
Exactly, conservatives are an easy “mark”.
It’s not that they agree with us, they just see us as a “cash cow”.
Fox News neutered themselves when they throttled Tucker’s coverage of the J6 video and folded in the Dominion lawsuit. Now they have transgendered themselves.

Actually, the Dominion lawsuit was a kangaroo court proceeding, just like what they did to Alex Jones.
The judge denied them a jury trial and “deemed” them guilty.
The jury trial was just going to be to decide how much money they owed.
Remember how that monied, privileged, snarky, Murdoch wife with her fancy persuasions “twittered” out “We did it” after election was called for Brandon? Telling. The death spiral is achieving critical mass. Should be fun.

If Carlson can find a voice outside of Fox that is accessible to Americans, he will thrive. Moreover, thanks to the nation’s most laudable free speech proponent, Elon Musk, the broadcast platform for Carlson to reach Americans already exists (then video of Tucker on Twitter)...
It's funny, because I used to watch about 15 hours of Fox News a week. Last Monday, I watched about 10-15 minutes of Brian Kilmeade (not a bad guy, but boring) filling in for Tucker, and switched channels. At least 14 3/4 hours of lost viewership last week are down to me. I have absolutely no desire to watch Fox News now, and may never.
After the BLM nonsense, I stopped watching NFL and MLB. We used to watch every single pitch of every Red Sox game. In 2021, after the Floyd nonsense, none. Last year every little. This year we have watched about two games, and only a few innings of either. The spell is broken.
I won’t be surprised if Musk is already cooking up plans to launch his own network.
All the goodwill and any viewer loyalty the channel once had is gone.
I won’t say they’re “dead” to me but their axing of their best show has greatly damaged them with me. Wonder if not having Tucker’s lead-in is gonna continue Hannity’s slow deterioration in the ratings? I think Maddow beats him sometimes at 9. Still like Laura’s show and Gutfeld, who is probably next he’s so successful at making liberals look stupid. Jesse Watters has potential. Their eight o’clock hour has always been strong in the ratings with O’Reilly before Tucker. They’d better put a strong personality in there.
Fox has been dead to me since the 2020 election. It was half dead to me after 2016.
Hopefully this will be the year it is dead to everyone.
Hoping Tucker just decides to go his own way entirely on Rumble.

I can't help but wonder when Greg Gutfeld show will be cancelled. It is the most politically INCORRECT and funny late night talk show on TV. Its viewership is more than all the lame late night shows with Colbert, Fallon, Kimmel, et.al. combined.
Although Greg's intro monologues can be tedious and not always funny, once his guests get into the various topics it is fun to watch them rag on the topic and on each other. Plus, he books a lot of informed comedians. He has the most informed and witty guests I've ever seen on a talk show. Still, Fox fired Tucker who held the no. one slot for that 8:00 pm slot.
My wife and I believe that Gutfeld's best continuing guest is a HUGE black wrestler named Tyrus. He alone is worth watching with his commonsense, traditional beliefs and his succinct clever remarks. He addresses the topics of the day with a conservative outlook and can be damn funny. Tyrus is a wonderful role model for our youth...black, white, whatever.
Also, I believe this is an excellent opportunity for Musk to start a new TV network. Although, his competition is Newsmax (I watch now) and he has a lot of irons in his fire.
