I placed a couple gospel tracts on private property, one being the car of a lesbian, and which could be construed to be a hate crime (intimidating or threatening) by the Left.

What the heck? Speech, even speech you don’t like, is protected under the 1st amendment. They won’t get away with legislating that away, and will Rino Ron even sign it? And even if he does, wouldn’t the courts throw this out on it’s face?
Hate crimes lead to thought crimes and a kind of ‘minority report’ ‘star chamber’, and that’s the type of thing that led to Jews being herded onto box cars.

I think this was intended to stop the level of harassment conservative speakers at universities or any non-leftist approved people anywhere receive. Death threats, posters of them being hanged or killed in some other way, etc.
I think death threats are already illegal, but the law is never enforced if the threats are made against conservatives.
They just need to make sure conservatives can get protection, but FL has a lot of Dem controlled cities, not to mention the radical left universities such as USF in leftist Gainesville. I think they believed that this will force the police to protect unpopular speakers (that is, conservatives) and prevent on-line and in-person harassment. It will make the police take it seriously as a crime.
Having death threats in your mailbox, either physical mailbox or electronic email box, shouldn’t be happening but it is.
