WATCH: NYC Bodega Owner Calls Out Alvin Bragg for Charging Him in Self-Defense Killing
Free Beacon ^ | April 17, 2023 | Ben Wilson

Jose Alba, the New York City bodega clerk who faced a murder charge for defending himself last summer, told House Republicans Monday that Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg did not "investigate" his case fully and that police and prosecutors should "be aimed at people committing crime, not an innocent man like me."

Alba killed a man in self-defense in July 2022, after the assailant jumped a counter and assaulted him. Bragg’s office initially sought to bring murder charges against him before eventually dropping them.

Alba, in a statement read out by his lawyer, called out Bragg's office for holding him on high bail despite letting many violent criminals out free under Bragg's bail reform policy.

"They asked for bail even though so many people are being let go these days," said Alba, who spent a week in New York's Rikers Island jail on murder charges. "I couldn’t afford it."

The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing Monday in New York City to hear about the city’s skyrocketing crime. The city saw major crimes rise 22 percent last year. New York officials reportedly told Republicans to cancel the hearing, and C-SPAN refused to carry it live.

New York City . . . saw major crimes rise 22 percent last year.

Good for them! Glad to see those Democrats get what they voted for.

This is why we need a GOP house even if it is run by a Milquetoast like McCarthy.

Would Bragg risk murder charges by defending him/her self against someone trying to murder her?

Glad to see those Democrats get what they voted for.

And they're getting it good and hard, too. And, as my esteemed friend Lurker has pointed out, they're not getting it nearly hard enough.

Is the crime victim, Mr. Alba now back in this country?
I would not set foot in America until my name was cleared, not with attorneys like Bragg still running the show.
I hope he stays safe.
Did any network carry this coverage?

The article never mentions that the attackers’s girlfriend stabbed Alba multiple times as he was fighting with his attacker. Bragg never charged her, and said the reason she wasn’t charged, was because she was defending her boyfriend. That’s the shitty kind of mind-set these Democrat D.A.’s have.

"New York City . . . saw major crimes rise 22 percent last year."

Unfortunately, the major crime victims are not the politicians, DAs and judges who have permitted the increase in major crimes in NYC.

Bragg punishes people when they try to defend themselves from his people.

Yeah — its good to get every detail out there about every way they are f———ing us. I need to make certain I have a full awareness of how powerless I and we are to make any sort of meaningful change in this broken pile of crap.

That neighborhood is basically run by Dominicans.

I was surprised that a black guy would even think of starting an attack like that.

I used to live near that neighborhood 30 odd years ago, and in no way would blacks bother a Dominican, else they would be basically chopped up.

They charged him with murder and held him in jail. The murder charge was ridiculous, and was rightly dismissed, but what strikes me as even more ridiculous is that ANYONE, ANYWHERE is EVER released on bail after being charged with murder. Murder defendants should be held until trial for our safety and theirs too.

The bail policy in these liberal big cities that have lots of crime is just stupid and is going to get a lot of people killed.

It's pretty sad when you have to leave the supposedly freest country in the world because you tried to defend yourself. The whole country has gone to shit and there isn't any turning back. Glad I won't be around to see it all go.

It’s almost as if the criminals are in charge, in New York. They would have a different idea about who should be punished, and who should not.
