California offers nation preview of 'clean energy' 'It isn't pretty'

California’s headlong rush to replace its electricity grid with renewable energy has given the rest of the country a preview of the decarbonized future that President Biden and his revived Clean Power Plan envision for America. It isn’t pretty.

Before supply-chain woes and federal stimulus goosed inflation, California’s cost of living already ranked second highest in the nation. Enthusiastic efforts to rely more heavily on wind and solar power—touted as “cheap” sources of clean energy—have only made the state more expensive.

In 2015, President Obama imposed his Clean Power Plan to replace all coal-fired power plants with natural gas-fired plants and renewable energy. California said, “hold my beer” and passed its own Clean Energy and Pollution Reduction Act with even more ambitious decarbonization targets. To meet those targets, the state issued overzealous, poorly planned regulations that increased in-state electricity generation from wind and solar farms by over twenty thousand gigawatt hours per year. Wind and solar power now account for a quarter of California’s energy supply.

California and clean energy seem like a natural fit. The state’s sunny coastlines, bright deserts, windy mountain passes, and deep river valleys should offer bountiful sources of cheap, all-natural solar, wind, and hydropower. Unfortunately, they don’t. Nightfall, droughts, and windless days take these renewable power sources offline. And when intermittent clean energy sources cannot keep up with demand, California power providers turn to natural gas and electricity imports that backstop the state’s grid, but which are now more expensive due to the insufficient storage and pipeline capacity created by the idealized rush to “cheap” clean energy.

Yes, the Fidiocy continues unabated. NevaDUH not as bad as across the state line to the west but no doubt headed down the same dead end road. Last March, my "equal payment" plan with NVEnergy was $131.00. After "reviewing your acccount" it has bounced up 3 times to the current $221. No doubt that will continue after "reviewing your account". Uh, if it's costing you more then just say so. Don't "review" the account and imply it's the homeowners fault. Nothing has changed on our end. Not much to do though.

These are the stupid bass turds who build thousands of windmills and then call the wind blowing a “climate crisis” and start stealing taxpayer dollars to try to get the wind to stop blowing.

“Clean” energy is economic suicide.

California offers a preview of what happens when Democrats take over an entire state government. It definitely isn’t pretty at all!

I can tell you first-hand (as a Californian) what a "de-carbonized" future looks like - soaring electricity bills, no upgrade to the electrical grid - let alone an increase in power - and alerts from the city during heat waves (of which we have many) not to plug in appliances or especially EVs. I was getting several of these a day during the last heat wave.

Some cities suffer from outright rolling blackouts or power shut-offs if the winds are too high.

Oh, the latest is a socialist "equalized" energy bill according to your income.

No wonder then:

Idiot Gov. Newsom will most likely be installed as POTUS in 2028 in yet another rigged election. He will take his energy policies nation-wide.

You need some time away. Your infatuation with guvnor nephew is starting to consume you. Newsom will never be president of the United States.

Besides the obvious, everyone of the 500K residents that have exiled themselves from California will tell at least 10 people each about how screwed up Newsom made California. That’s an awfully big number of people who would never vote for him.

They spent 30 billion on a train to nowhere, yet if they took that money and built 4 destination facilities they would have fixed their energy issues.

I agree with all you said.

The Democrats will use the same vote fraud tactics they used in 2020 to get Biden into office to get Newsom into office.

It’s a different day, it won’t happen. Too many people have learned a lesson.

Blue states are gonna steal, the real question is has the rest of the country had enough with the thievery of the coastal elites and ready to fight back properly?

He doesn’t see 500,000 moved out, he sees a sanctuary state, money in homeless and drug intervention Sacto money and millions of ne illegals. He sees free money from federal fund and climate change initiatives since Trump left.
He hasn’t seen it fall apart in his bubble yet as he’s very insulated like Biden. Someday...God willing, he’ll see how he’s destroyed California, including the water supply and the racism with the equity and inclusion BS.

I get it. My wife is from Kern County. Our entire family on her side, except one nephew and his wife and family, have moved out of California to Idaho and Arkansas. 10 adults and 16 kids.

We didn’t have any idea the entire clan was thinking about moving out. They had been in California since the Dustbowl days. I see a lot of depression like you exhibit from all things California. Victor Davis Hanson one of my favorite historical authors from California, articles are so full of gloom, I have to read his articles in shifts now.

I’m in just as bad of a place, perhaps even worse, because of the same disease infecting California. We have a genuine, certifiable moron governor jay inslee.

My grandparents are from Kern County - the dry side. My grandfather bought acreage there thinking he could farm - he never could get the water so he gave up. My family sold the last of the property about three years ago. They love the area, heat, pollution and all and will never leave. Ditto for family in So Cal.

I will be wherever my family is, which is this mis-managed state. I don’t hate California, this is my home; I hate the lefty politicians that have destroyed this state - and especially those who continue to vote for them.
