Utah voters divided on whether or not Mitt Romney should run again

Should U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, seek re-election next year?

The issue divides registered Utah voters, according to an O.H. Predictive Insights poll released earlier this week.

While Utahns have a net positive approval rating of the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee, that does not mean most want him to seek re-election.

Romney has a 51% approval rating in the state, while 43% disapprove of him.

Even so, just 38% of voters said Romney should run again, while 42% said no; 20% said they were unsure.

Republicans generally oppose a second Romney term; 36% think he should run again, while 51% disagree -- numbers that could spell trouble for Romney in a GOP primary.

Meanwhile, Democrats (47% yes, 26% no) and independents (39% yes, 35% no) are more likely than Republicans to want to see Romney run again.

“Romney has seemed to age backward throughout his political career,” Mike Noble, OHPI Chief of Research, said in the release, “10 years ago, he was the nominee for president and the standard-bearer of the GOP; now, he can barely muster a third of his own party’s support for a re-election bid.”

Romney is particularly unpopular with supporters of former president Donald Trump; 70% of them think that Romney should not run again, according to the poll.

My first thought is “When was the last time voters’ opinions mattered in US elections?”

“Romney has a 51% approval rating in the state, while 43% disapprove of him.”

Group solidarity is powerful, but it appears to have at least some limits.

Wonder who else they’ve got? Is it another rino or a more liberal candidate?

I don’t know if he can run, but probably he should hide.

I’d love to see him run.

From a rabid rottweiler. A moving car. A speeding train. A bolt of lightening.

Romney is a selfish self-indulgent parasite. You couldn't move him out of the Senate, even with the use of Borax's 20 mule team. The Senate is Monsieur Delecto's dream job, and easy money. It pays for all his silk brocade magic underwear.

The LDS are an increasing smaller part of the population since the Cali-fornicatetors have moved in.

There are areas in Salt Lake that are no-go zones for cops....it ain’t Deseret anymore - and hasn’t been for **decades**.

The mayor of Salt Lake City is openly gay. In June of 2021 Spencer Cox, Govenor, officially designated the month of June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month.

You should know of what you speak - before you look the fool.
We sold our property in rural Utah two years ago for a reason, Utah is too much like California these days.

The only way Romney loses is if someone actually runs against him in the Republican Primary.

Absent losing in the primary, in a head-to-head match against a Democrat, Romney wins re-election. I just don't see Utah electing a Democrat in 2024 and as bad as Romney is, Utah will re-elect him.

Well, who knows? Maybe in the next election Utah voters will send a real Republican to the Senate.

They vote like the godless heathen they are. They are all getting promoted to be gods over their own planets. I assume they have to continue to wear their fancy underpants. Mental midget Mormons continue to elect Mittens.

Let me guess! Democrats think he should run again and will vote for him if he does. Conservatives think he should retire and his name never be spoken again in polite circles.

I think back on the b.s. the GOPe gave us when exhorting Romney’s conservative values as they told us to vote for him. It makes me sick to my stomach to recall the cleverly worded ads the GOPe made for Romney. He read his lines well for campaign commercials. All the way up to the time to debate an opponent regarding those positions and “values” he supposedly held. At that point he forgot his lines and he choked!

When it comes to campaigning and interacting with the average voter, Romney is basically Gavin Newsom with an (R) by his name. I suspect they share hints on the best hair gel to use.
