Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir (Otzma Yehudit) pushed back Wednesday morning, following criticism by President Joe Biden of the Israeli government's handling of the judicial crisis.
On Tuesday Biden said he is "very concerned" about the judicial overhaul, adding Israel "cannot continue down this road."
Biden also added he will not be inviting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the White House in the near term.
Speaking with Galei Tzahal Wednesday morning, Ben-Gvir fired back that Israel is independent of the United States, and Biden's criticism was inappropriate.
"We respect the democratic system there (in the US), but...they need to understand that Israel is an independent country and not just another star on the American flag"
"It needs to be clear to countries around the world, the people here had an election and expressed their will."
Education Minister Yoav Kisch (Likud) also responded to Biden's comments, telling Kan Reshet Bet: "We all respect the American president, he can say what his position is regarding any issue involving Israel."
"But with all due respect, Israel is a sovereign nation and it makes its decisions here. There can be American criticism, but the decisions are our own."...

I don’t mind it. We get a lot of bang for our buck.
Intelligence, shared science and technology, airspace when we need it. And being the only real democracy in such a fanatically charged region, (although better lately, thanks to Trump and Abraham Accords) I would much rather spend tax dollars there than some of the crappy and hopeless places we do.
FYI, the bulk of the military aid Israel receives from the US is required to be spent in the USA. So, this foreign aid creates jobs for US defense contractor workers and profits for the companies. Also, any improvements made by Israel to the weapons systems are shared at no cost with the US. As an example, the IDF created a field dressing that when applied acts as a tourniquet. This field dressing is included in the medical kits carried by our own military. So, on balance, it seems like a decent investment by the US and the amount of money Israel receives pales by comparison to what has been squandered in the Ukraine.
I don't know how much the "bulk" would be. I do know that Israel is the only nation which is exempt from spending all its military foreign money in the U.S.
And that "logic" would justify every welfare program in the U.S. including slavery reparations -- Hey, the money will be spent in the U.S., stimulating the economy, etc.!
No conservative uses that argument for student loans, welfare, food stamps, Covid stimulus, or any other welfare programs. But I often hear it used for funding Israel.

Not true. Israel sells back its improved technology at a profit, or even sits on it.
The U.S. helped fund Iron Dome. Then Israel wanted to sell it back to us, without the key codes. That was the only reason we didn't buy it.

Ben Gvir is correct. Actually the Star of David is on the Great Seal of the USA, and thereby on the back of every US $1 bill. The legend is it was put there on orders of General George Washington to express his gratitude to Haym Salomon, who raised the money for our army to march on Yorktown in August 1781.
