Has Ukraine made a big mistake by refusing to retreat from Bakhmut?
NBC News ^ | March 16, 2023 | Mithil Aggarwal

Ukraine says its future may depend on the brutal battles raging around Bakhmut, but there are growing splits between officials in Kyiv and some Western military analysts over the best approach to what could be a decisive period in the conflict.

For months, Ukraine’s defense of the eastern city has held up and worn down Russian forces while serving as a potent symbol of the country’s defiance.

Now, as Moscow’s assault intensifies, a number of observers have questioned whether Kyiv's decision to reinforce the area rather than retreat is being driven more by the political desire to avoid a high-profile defeat than by military logic.

A long-speculated Ukrainian withdrawal from the battered city has not materialized, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his military chiefs instead betting that they can buy critical time and benefits for a future counteroffensive by doubling down.

Fortunately, yes. The Russians wanted to eliminate neo Nazi forces in the Ukraine and after some movement, settled down to let the neo Nazi’s come to them in Bakhmut.

There was so much about how wonderful it was that the Ukrainians were holding the town, but Russia was just using it as bait - letting forces stream in and killing them. It meant less supply line logistics for the Russians - just wait and the Ukrainians will send the next group of soldiers for the Russians to kill. The Russians are taking heavy losses as they have determined that the Ukraine will continue to be an existential threat to Russia until it is completely defanged. But the Ukrainians have lost far more troops, few with relevant combat experience remain, and have been saying for some time they don’t have the ammo/hardware they need to mount an offense.

What’s really offensive is to watch Z’s puppeteers just throw the citizens into the grinder as canon fodder. This should have stopped a long time ago, but Z’s NATO handlers thought they could wear Russia down and are instead, wearing down themselves.

Most of the neo Nazi core of the Ukrainian military has been killed but there are still a significant number and they still ‘hold Bakhmut’. The true tragedy are the conscripts and others used as cannon fodder.

It is the Russians coming to Bakhmut where the UKR forces are. Russia has been attacking that town for over 7 months and have suffered extraordinary loses.

It generally accepted that attacking forces lose more then the defensive forces. Would you agree with that?

You are Nazi. Ukraine hasn’t invaded anyplace. Russia invaded the Republic of Georgia, Ukraine, and threatens other neighbors. Putin said “Russia knows no borders.” Now THAT is real Nazi thinking. The crimes committed by Russia in the Donbas in 2014 brings on all manner of SS or Stalin nostalgia. You are a war criminal too by supporting crimes against humanity and crimes against my own family and friends in the Donbas.

NATO and the Ukrainians were crowing about they had Russia suckered into Bakhmut and were grinding them down fighting over worthless piece land.

Kind of wondering who is grinding who down.

Ask Napoleon and Hitler about grinding the Russians down and how that worked out for them.

Russia is using its massive artillery advantage to grind down the Ukrainians from a distance. We seen this movie before - it was called WW II. The Russian army crushed the Nazis and the Germans who were far more capable fighters than the Ukrainians.

The Forever War clowns picked the wrong country to play Turd Word Games with.

You, like many others, don't understand the nature of this particular war. In the recent Kyiv Independent article, "Battle of Bakhmut: Ukrainian soldiers worry Russians begin to ‘taste victory’," a Ukrainian source estimates that 90 percent of total Ukrainian casualties are from artillery and air strikes. The Russian army does not engage the UFA in traditional firefights and small arms. The Russians keep a safe distance and pound Ukrainian positions with, as the article states, "infinite" rounds of artillery.

- When East and West Germany reunited (with resultant NATO expansion), the U.S. made a deal with Gorbachev, that if the USSR did not push back on German reunification, then NATO would not expand into Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland.

- along comes Bill Clinton, who pushes NATO expansion into Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland and the Bear is further provoked.

- Obama stages coup in Ukraine 2014, which removed a duly elected president.

- Ukrainian army proceeds to murder over 14,000 ethnic Russians in the eastern Donbass region.

- surprise surprise Biden presses NATO expansion into Ukraine with further provocations by Sweden and Finland joining NATO, which is currently under way.

- Biden destroys the Nordstream 2 pipeline and blames it on Russia. The first time the U.S. has attacked the major infrastructure of an ally (Germany). A further major provocation.

- just imagine if the Chinese CCP conducted similar actions along the Canadian and Mexican borders. Would we accept Chinese military bases with nukes along our borders? This is what Putin was forced to deal with when Biden threatened NATO expansion into Ukraine and other countries.

- Russia, China, and a number of other major nations refuse to participate in the western (U.S. led) globalism movement. Putin is standing in the way. Is the U.S. on the right side of this war? Depends on the color of your sunglasses.

Russia is sitting back inside fortified areas, letting the Nazi’s come to them.

Have the Russians actually taken Bakhmut yet, despite us being told ad nauseum that "it's over" for the past three months?

Answer: No.

'nuff said.

Napoleon and Hitler were the attackers, and NOT the defenders, like Ukraine.

The Ukrainians attacked Poland from the East in 1939 and drove Polish forces back into the Nazis. The Polish thought they would be able to escape the Nazis by fleeing into Ukraine. The Polish learned never to trust the Ukrainians.

The Ukrainians attacked Poland from the East in 1939 and drove Polish forces back into the Nazis.

Your history is fuzzy...that was the SOVIET UNION, i.e. RUSSIA, that backstabbed Poland in 1939.

“Russia is sitting back inside fortified areas, letting the Nazi’s come to them.”

Saw a video report about a group of Russians sent to the front to complete the digging of a trench line. As they dug up the remains of the previous group of Russians who had been assigned the task but were killed and hastily buried before completing the task

He always says what isn’t popular and ends up being correct.

I would call our government-media industrial complex “always wrong” in regards to the Ukraine.

The Russians are running out of ammo. Putin is going to be assassinated soon. Putin is going to be overthrown. The Ukrainians are winning. On and on and on the lies spew forth.
