Ron DeSantis Says Protecting Ukraine Is Not a Key U.S. Interest
The New York Times ^ | By Jonathan Swan and Maggie Haberman

Posted on 03/13/2023 7:13:26 PM PDT by Kazan

Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida has sharply broken with Republicans who are determined to defend Ukraine against Russia’s invasion, saying in a statement made public on Monday night that protecting the European nation’s borders is not a vital U.S. interest and that policymakers should instead focus attention at home.

###

“While the U.S. has many vital national interests — securing our borders, addressing the crisis of readiness with our military, achieving energy security and independence, and checking the economic, cultural and military power of the Chinese Communist Party — becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them,” Mr. DeSantis said in a statement that Mr. Carlson read aloud on his show.

###

“F-16s and long-range missiles should therefore be off the table,” he added. “These moves would risk explicitly drawing the United States into the conflict and drawing us closer to a hot war between the world’s two largest nuclear powers. That risk is unacceptable.”

“A policy of  ‘regime change’  in Russia (no doubt popular among the D.C. foreign policy interventionists) ,” Mr. DeSantis said, “would greatly increase the stakes of the conflict, making  the use of nuclear weapons more likely.

Mr. DeSantis added, “We cannot prioritize intervention in an escalating foreign war over the defense of our own homeland, especially as tens of thousands of Americans are dying every year from narcotics smuggled across our open border and our weapons arsenals critical for our own security are rapidly being depleted.”

Unlike Trump, I’m not afraid of a competitive primary.

************

Trump is just defining the little ingrate before the little ingrate throws his “hat in the ring.”

Trump wants to be the nominee and he isn’t going to treat the youngster from Florid with “kid gloves.”

You can be sure of that.

Bidet should pivot back to his other fantasies of ‘climate’ and ‘white supremacy’ as the ‘greatest national security threats’. At least those don’t require thermonuclear exchanges to be resolved.

How can you say there was anti-Trump sentiment when he was having the largest campaign rallies ever seen compared to Biden’s basement campaign.

Because Trump supporters attended his rallies, and Trump haters didn’t attend his or Biden’s. I’d bet that 98% of whatever votes Biden did get were anti-Trump driven, not pro-Biden driven.

With Jeb and Ryan so strongly in the DeSantis court, I am surprised by this. This may cost him some deep state support.

Idiot Haley refused to respond. Pence had a true war-mongering answer.

Neocons and liberals would love to see American men killed fighting Russia while American women copulate with mexicO’s and other illegal alien swarmers.

Stop being delusional. The same vote fraud mechanisms that denied Trump his re-election in 2020 will be used on DeSantis in 2024 if he were the GOP nominee.

Look, I agree RD’s engagement with the evil “donors”, and his First Amendment squishiness are both problems.

But, the odds that he’s going to be the nominee are rising sharply, and this statement about Ukraine is the ONLY good foreign policy thing I’ve ever heard him say.

I don’t believe he would refrain from attacking Iran, which is a problem - but I want to hear more.

I’ve always been hard right on here, and couldn’t stand the likes of McCain and other centrist Republicans. I always respected Trump as a business man, and he lured a lot of us in when he started questioning Obama’s birth certificate, then started talking about building a wall, and locking her up.

Except, we never got any new records on Obama, much less anything on his birth certificate. You really think Trump didn’t have access to some deep Obama secrets while he was President? Of course he did, but we never got any new dirt, did we?

Nor did we get that wall, much less have Mexico pay for it. There were lots of ideas thrown his way too, like taxes on Western Union, but he never even entertained any.

Didn’t lock her up either. Heck that promise was cast aside within his first month in office.

What we did get was an Executive Order enforcing new gun control, which was the first time an EO had ever even been tried for that, believe it or not.

We got unnecessary lockdowns, complete with free rent for everyone in the country, again by EO.

We got fast tracking of dangerous modifyDNA injections, which they have still never done an actual double blinded study to see if it even reduces symptoms or not, not to mention we know it doesn’t block transmission despite all the phony advertising we were given by Trump and others.

Sure Trump got a few good things done, while we had the majority in both houses of Congress, writing and passing the actual laws he simply signed. Once the Congress was lost, it was one calamity after another.

He may have enough die hard supporters to win the primary, but he has no path to 270 in the general. Despite collecting $250M specifically donated for election security, he’s spent that money on rallies instead, where we’re told to “outvote the cheating.”

He’s done nothing to win back voters in those swing states he lost in 2020 either. His major Senate candidates in those states all lost going away. Yet just tonight he was still bragging about his 200-20 record in the last election. The guy’s become a joke to serious thinkers. You either believe in comic book endings, or you don’t.

You are surprised because you chose to believe that be has deep State support, which be doesn’t. Their goal is to divide us and that is the method they’ve chosen. Step back and look at the bigger picture.

Not without MAGA voters.

Brian Kemp did just fine with MAGA voters, even after Trump endorsed Stacey Abrams.

I’m on record saying I’ll vote for Trump if he wins the primary. Where’s your disdain for those saying if Trump doesn’t win the primary, then they’re happy to bring on the next Democratic President? That is what I was calling out, yet you chose to attack me, instead. No problem, just setting the record straight.

“Not without MAGA voters.
RINOS, Never Trumpers and the Deep State are lining up behind DeSantis.
Not a winning strategy to win over MAGA voters.”

Guilt by association don’t cut it. Name a policy, position or statement by DeSantis that shows he is a RINO or Globalist as Trump calls him. Answer this article please.
