NYT Reporter Torches the Left's Hopes for a Trump Indictment in Stormy Daniels Case

Are we back to this nonsense again? Remember the hush payments Stormy Daniels was receiving, which led to her soliciting the legal advice of now-ex-attorney Michael Avenatti, which ended with her losing her lawsuit against Donald Trump, including paying the former president’s attorney fees? Yeah, that’s back in the news because someone at The New York Times went off half-cocked and said that criminal charges would likely be filed against the former president. It’s ‘the walls are closing in’ part LXXXVII, and it’s not happening, according to NYT reporter Maggie Haberman (via Mediaite):

"ANDERSON COOPER: I mean, how do you expect him to react to this? Does it affect his campaign at all?

MAGGIE HABERMAN: So we don’t — we’re entering uncharted territory here. And I think it’s important to note about this case, as Kara said, this is a misdemeanor that they’re trying to push up to a felony. It’s an —

ANDERSON COOPER: Which is a really kind of —

MAGGIE HABERMAN: Exotic, it’s an exotic case. And a judge could decide, no, we’re going to get back to a misdemeanor. That is difficult for a prosecutor when it’s a former president. I understand, you know, justice is supposed to be equal, you know, for all. But, you know, people take into consideration factors like this. I think we could see a rallying effect from his supporters. It could be that more people are turned off by this. I just don’t think we know. We know how he will use it, which is that he will say he’s being attacked and victimized. And we have seen that over and over again. We’re going to continue to.

And I fear if all their attempts fail, they’ll move on to something more “permanent”.

There IS no crime, not even a misdemeanor. A wealthy businessman and entertainment figure, in the middle of a big personal project (getting elected President), gets an accusation from a gold digging whore who earlier tried to get him to further her career.
She floats that extortion accusation to his lawyer a month before the election.
He gives her 130,000 to go away with an NDA. It was his personal money, not campaign funds.

That’s like a guy making 100k a year. His daughter is getting married in an hour and he finds a drunk bum camped by the front door of the church. Bum says he will go away for the whole day for a single penny. (It’s actually far less that a penny for that example)

A personal claim settlement for no admission of guilt and an NDA is a no brainer. And without using campaign funds, it is not any kind of crime.

This is just part of the FBI/DC sedition campaign waged against him.

You sound pretty damn irritated about it that. I intend to die pretty damn irritated about that, Jane Fonda in Vietnam, and along with our withdrawal in the Middle East and Libya, etc etc. a major reason I’m a cranky old SOB.

This my sound quite naive, but I am completely unclear on what crime Trump allegedly committed.

These NY prosecutors are a bunch of idiots. They are trying to charge a former president for being the victim of extortion. These same jerk offs are letting real criminals run the streets without fear of being prosecuted. They are petty and pathetic.

So, who was it Edwards, from NC, that actually used campaign funds to keep someone quiet? And wasn’t there a kid involved?

Anything happen to him other than him bowing out of his blossoming campaign for President?

What are the Statutes of Limitation in New York for criminal fraud or other Felonies? I thought it was 6 years for fraud and 5 years for most other felonies (with some exceptions for things like Murder or Rape).

Trump’s crime? Being an outsider, willing to fight the New World Order, not willing to play ball with the establishment.
for starters.

I’m familiar with that sort of rubric, but in a real trial there comes a time at a trial where the prosecutor announces that the defendant stands accused of ABC, section def and GHI section jkl. In other words, what specific law(s) he violated. It is those details that escape me. My best guess is that the payment to Stormi induced an illegal campaign contribution on Stormi’s part, as her tell-all story would probably have damaged Trumps 2016 campaign.

President Trump was guilty of being a Republican. For proper context, you have to look at the incident with John Kerry's 2004 VP running mate John Edwards. Edwards' wife Elizabeth announced that she had breast cancer the week before the 2004 election, which Kerry/Edwards lost.

Edwards later ran for President in the 2008 Democrat primaries. He was getting the sympathy vote because his wife had announced that her cancer had returned. Early in the campaign, the National Enquirer discovered that John Edwards was having an affair with campaign photographer Reille Hunter, and ultimately had a love child with her. Edwards eventually dropped out, the charge of cheating on his dying wife was too much for even a Democrat to overcome.

Allegedly, Edwards was paying Hunter to keep quiet about it, but it was eventually discovered. People questioned whether the payments to Hunter amounted to illegal use of campaign funds, but the Edwards campaign argued that cash is fungible and it's hard to tell which cash - campaign cash or Edwards' personal cash - was used for the payments. Edwards eventually went to trial in federal court in North Carolina and was acquitted one the count of misuse of campaign funds, and two other counts were a mistrial. The DoJ declined to retry those two counts.

If President Trump were to be indicted for misuse of campaign funds when he had billions of his own (and no love child to hide), it would be in a New York court which would be hostile to him.

I’d hate to give them any advice but they should leave Trump alone. Drop all of the bogus legal cases against him and have the press start ignoring him.
