TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — A man drove himself to his Tulsa home after being shot during a home invasion in Sand Springs, according to the Osage County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say they were called to a home on Heritage Hills Drive in Sand Springs just after 8 p.m. Thursday night for a home invasion.
The homeowner shot the suspect, now identified as 52-year-old Robert Lee Johnson, in the face with a .45 caliber, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies say Johnson was in the process of assaulting his ex-girlfriend when he was shot, who is also the homeowner's niece.
Johnson laid down in the home after being shot and then got up and drove his car to his home in Tulsa.
The OCSO says Johnson's daughter found him bleeding out and called 911.
Johnson was transported to a local hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to his mouth and cheek, and he will be sedated for a few days before deputies will arrest him.
Johnson's ex-girlfriend had been staying with her uncle to avoid an abusive relationship with Johnson.
The homeowner will not be facing charges.
Yep. Imagine what he would have done to his victim(s) had he not been shot.
And it dint hurt neither.

A few years ago, at an informal shooting range, I watched a couple of rednecks pecking away at a bowling ball with pistols. 9mm, .357Mag, .45ACP, all didn’t seem to do much to it. Then one of the guys dragged out an SKS and reduced the bowling ball to small pieces in less than 10 shots.
That dude is one tough nut!!

I’m surprised the 357 didn’t do as much. It’s a bit faster and weightier. 45 you can almost see going.

Just goes to show that if you shoot someone in the face, they tend to leave you alone afterwards. :)
Pistols are mostly less powerful than centerfire rifles.
Pistols are still very useful tools. (because you can easily carry them with you)
Note, however, He was effectively neutralized as a threat. Then he woke up, got up, and drove home.
He might have died without medical care.

The results were striking but not surprising.
You can see .45 slugs in flight if you have the sun to your back and shoot about 50+ yards.
Larger, slower, shinier bullets are easier to see.
People have seen bullets from .308 and .30-06 during long range shooting, under the right lighting conditions.
