Normally I’d agree with you about government overreach, but those foil mylar balloons start utility line fires, get stuck in everything and never degrade. You see them in lots of trees and on power lines as well as deflated on the ground.
Now if they are “pico” balloons going around the world seven times, that’s a whole different kettle of helium.

What I object to about massive release and display of balloons on public property is that they end up being litter. So they should be treated just like any other trash. Banning them all together seems a bit overboard but banning their release makes sense.
