A key signer of the open letter that wrongly suggested The Post’s bombshell reporting on Hunter Biden’s emails was part of a “Russian information operation” has accused Politico of distorting “what we said” — more than two years after the fact.
Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper tried Monday to tamp down the growing controversy over the letter that he and 50 other ex-spooks signed after The Post first revealed the existence of the first son’s infamous laptop in October 2020.
Their public statement, now the subject of investigations by the Republican-led House Judiciary and Intelligence committees, was first reported by Politico and later seized on by then-candidate Joe Biden.
“There was message distortion,” Clapper told the Washington Post. “All we were doing was raising a yellow flag that this could be Russian disinformation. Politico deliberately distorted what we said. It was clear in paragraph five.”
Clapper — who in 2013 falsely told Congress that the US didn’t “wittingly” collect the telephone records of millions of Americans — also claimed to have been unaware of how Joe Biden described the letter during a debate with then-President Donald Trump, according to the Washington Post.

You can’t argue with a liar. They just lie.
They knew that they could purposefully be nebulous when they signed this pledge/letter and the media would "distort" this to take down Trump. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Or, what goes around comes around.
They’ll all use the excuse that they didn’t say “it was Russian disinformation”, only that it had “all the earmarks of Russian disinformation”. Typical of a weasel lawyer talk.

They KNEW 100% how their friends in the media would play the “has all the earmarks” (of Russian disinformaton) theme. They knew 100% that that was no caveat to their friends in the media, at the FBI, at Twitter, Facebook et al. THEY KNEW they were attempting to kill the story.
They said “it had the earmarks of Russian disinformation”. Therefore, they did not lie when they lied, because their lie can be plausibly denied. And in the darkness democracy died.
Nebulous statement was more than enough for the media and for Biden to say it was Russia during a debate. They knew they just had to dangle this and everyone would gobble it up as CERTAIN disinformation from Russia. Too cute by half.

With apologies to Johnny Carson...It should be called the “Hunter Biden Missing Laptop James Clapper Collusion Caper.”
Except there is also the matter of Biden citing their letter as fact in a Presidential debate. Clapper is dodging that by claiming he wasn’t aware of Biden’s saying that in the debate.
And no one, at the time, in the fake media corrected lying biden.
