Russell D. Heller, a councilman in Milford, a small borough in Hunterdon County, was fatally shot outside the PSE&G Somerset Central Division Headquarters in Franklin on Wednesday morning, officials said.
Heller, 51, a senior distribution supervisor for the energy company, was pronounced dead on the scene of the Weston Canal Road headquarters, authorities said.

U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr., R-7th Dist., shared his condolences for the councilman in social media posts Wednesday evening.
“I am shocked and saddened by the tragic murder of Milford Councilman Russell Heller,” Kean wrote. “Russell was an outstanding public servant who proudly represented the river town he loved. My prayers are with his family and the Milford community.”
Gary T. Curtis, 58, of Washington in Warren County, was identified as the suspect in the shooting and located at 10:20 a.m. in Bridgewater, inside a car, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Authorities said that Curtis, a former PSE&G employee, shot Heller before fleeing the scene and driving to Bridgewater to kill himself.
Officials believe Curtis targeted Heller and are considering the shooting to be an isolated incident. A motive has not been disclosed.
This comes just one week after a separate incident in which Sayreville councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour was fatally shot in a vehicle near her home.

Both slain councilpeople were elected Republicans. Heller was last elected in 2020, Dwumfour to her first term in 2021.

This Curtis-guy (suspected killer on the 2nd shooting)....former employee of the regional electrical company. Locals say there was a work-dispute going on with him and the dead guy.

Crazy. Grew up in Bridgewater Township know right where PSE & G is on Canal Rd in Franklin Township have been to Milford and Washington boroughs many times. Been to Sayreville many times too. It’s a small world.

Color me skeptical.
That works only if they get nothing here and are forced to leave. Otherwise the commies will just be working on infiltration and subversion of a smaller free area; just like they’ve done to the entire US now.

I am not far away either. I used to look for Indian arrowheads in the woods (now gone) between PS&G and 287.
