The 99-year-old former secretary of state and apostle of realpolitik has for months advocated a ceasefire in the Ukraine war that would in effect accept some military gains by Russia. He's probably right. Elon Musk said the same thing. Zelensky wants to fight to the last Ukrainian. Should we let him?

Adding Ukraine to NATO would be like adding Cuba to the Warsaw Pact back in the 1950s. Only bad things could happen after that.

He didn’t ‘soften’ - he went 180 degrees opposite.

Henry has hard-flipped from last year's Davos:
“Negotiations need to begin in the next two months before it creates upheavals and tensions that will not be easily overcome. Ideally, the dividing line should be a return to the status quo ante. Pursuing the war beyond that point would not be about the freedom of Ukraine, but a new war against Russia itself,” Kissinger said.
This new stance by Kissinger is not a message to Putin, but to Putin's successor.

By the time this war is over there won’t be much of Ukraine left except for a rump state in western Ukraine. I think Putin will be less concerned about them aligning with NATO.

Uh-Oh. This will not sit well with many of the pro-Russia FReepers, who until recently applauded Kissinger’s comments on the matter.

Ukraine won’t exist, the longer this goes on. Therefore, it can’t join NATO.
