Henry Kissinger warns against the defeat of Russia as Western unity on sanctions frays badly
The Telegraph via Yahoo ^ | May 23rd, 2022 | Ambrose Evans-Pritchard

Veteran US statesman Henry Kissinger has urged the West to stop trying to inflict a crushing defeat on Russian forces in Ukraine, warning that it would have disastrous consequences for the long term stability of Europe.

The former US Secretary of State and architect of the Cold War rapprochement between the US and China told a gathering in Davos that it would be fatal for the West by the mood of the moment, forgetting the proper place of Russia in the European balance of power.

Dr Kissinger said the war must not be allowed to drag on for much longer, and came close to calling on the West to bully Ukraine into accepting negotiations on terms that fall very far short of its current war aims.

“Negotiations need to begin in the next two months before it creates upheavals and tensions that will not be easily overcome. Ideally, the dividing line should be a return to the status quo ante. Pursuing the war beyond that point would not be about the freedom of Ukraine, but a new war against Russia itself,” he said.

That only works after an unconditional surrender and requires generations of occupation though. I can’t see that ever happening with Russia. Besides we are no longer a morally upright nation.

Thanks for owning up to your hypocrisy. But let’s try to avoid wishing death on distinguished, long-serving US Republican officials and decorated WWII veterans in this forum in the future, shall we?

Just trying to help you not make yourself look like a dick.

“...and requires generations of occupation...”

I suppose you are correct. It would be interesting to do some research on countries where with some assistance by the Feds they have gotten their economy going.

I recall reading where the old-style “colonialism” was a step in the right direction for some countries. USA companies would set up shop and hire the locals. Some of course just intent on cheap labor, but others actually trying to improve the area (and in turn their operations) with better education, more production, etc.

Until the locals kicked them all out in various rebellions, etc. (I think it was mostly African countries I was reading about.)

No need to guess. Biden and other crooked American politicians have a huge financial stake in Ukraine kickbacks and are deathly afraid their role in Ukraine’s bioweapons labs will be disclosed and they will be shown guilty of crimes against humanity.

Yep, Putin must be able to save face to avoid expanding the war.

There is a lot of money in war for those behind the scenes, and the democrats are desperate to shift attention away from their usual incompetence in just about every area. As election time draws closer we can expect more and greater calamities created to that end.

“...boycotting Russia’s oil & gas would be devastating to all of their economies.”

Butbutbut...wind power and solar. Why do we even need oil? /s

Incidentally, Henry was used as an example in an excellent book on negotiation about how not to do it. He flew back and forth to Paris while the North Vietnamese rented a villa in France. Virtually everything he did guaranteed we’d lose the negotiation. (I think the title might have been “You can negotiate anything.”)

If Russia collapses, China will move in.

China is our actual long term enemy, not Russia.

Henry has this one right. The status quo ante bellum is the best the Ukrainians can hope for. Implement Minsk II.

An assertion without evidence.

I can't help it if you are ignorant. Kissinger has spent the last 14 years, at least, devoted to promoting China's interest. Remember, when China hosted the 2008 Olympics and Kissinger went on a tour to counter any accusation of human rights abuses. Remember in 2008 when he founded the Kissinger Institute on China and the United States to promote China's interests in the U.S.A.?

Since then, his attention has been focused entirely on promoting China here. When he was Secretary of State, he went to China to open up China to the United States. He was the one who kicked off our current condition where a huge portion of manufactured products in the U.S. were made in China, and they own our debt. Also, that's when he got Taiwan kicked out of the U.N, and China in the U.N.

In 2011, he published a book, On China,, he absolved China of all the people who died under Mao, and everything else, and flattered their foreign policy. British correspondent on China said, "Chinese couldn't believe their luck in finding such a naive and biddable partner as Kissinger"

In 2014, he wrote the book, World Order, he said China wants to be, "the principal adviser to all humanity." Etc. But Hillary Clinton liked the book. And, of course when Biden got elected, he asked him to go softer om China, even compared to previous president who went soft on China.

Can you find anyone who argues he hasn't been working or China for the last 15 years?

"the dividing line should be a return to the status quo ante"- Henry

Aww, but that would disappoint the Putlims! * spit *

You have no idea what status quo ante even means, do ya.

It means the borders are exactly as they were before Putlim's illegal war. Period. Paragraph.

I would add that such a Kissinger treaty would also include a direct rebuke of Putlim's insane, bellicose, fraudulent causus belli: "NATO countries have no sovereignty; countries that even court NATO have no sovereignty.", and that Putlim's gravestone be engraved, "Detineo ergo esse desino".

“Can you find anyone who argues he hasn’t been working or China for the last 15 years?”

He is not registered as a Chinese agent.

He has not advocated the US ease our military posture in Asia.

He has not advocated any nation succumb to them.
