Tuesday I [i.e., John Sexton] wrote a story highlighting the fact that the number of Virginia high schools who failed to inform students about their merit awards had risen to 13. Two days later the number has risen to 17.
The count just keeps growing. Marshall High School Principal Jeremy Litz just sent parents an email, telling them that “it has come to light that Marshall High School students designated as Commended Students this past fall were notified later than we would have hoped.”
This brings to 17 the number of high schools in Fairfax County, Loudoun County and Prince William County that have admitted to withholding awards. Many other Fairfax County high schools haven’t yet released the results of their reviews. Here’s the list put together by the Fairfax Times of the schools that are on record. But as mentioned other schools haven’t said one way or another what they did so I’d be willing to bet that by next week this list will be longer.

Too bad Virginia doesn’t have a governor who would put a stop to this thought-control foolishness...
And lots of coincidental coincidences, too!
What “thought-control”?
Seventeen schools (at least) is not a "mistake", it is being done on purpose.
teachers and their administrators.....stop thinking that they care about the students....they definitely do not care about them......
The mistake was getting caught.
My first thought was big deal. NHS commended status is not all that big a deal, right? Just means you did good on the PSAT and you will be informed of your score from ETS not from your school.
Upon reading the article it clicked - recipients’ racial distribution varies significantly from the student body in fcps.
Institutionalized racism.
Sue-worthy stuff. Class-action.

That is a lot of students that missed out on not only recognition, but the college scholarships funds that went with it. Not to mention the damage it did to their self-worth after all their hard work in achieving such a goal, for it to just be swept under the rug.
All teachers and administrators that are found to be involved in such a conspiracy (for it seems obvious given the number of schools involved that this it what it was) need to be fired, and ordered to write a letter of apology to each student, in hand and by pen, and delivered in person. I would also suggest a monetary fine, but that may be hard to calculate. Maybe at least 10 dollars for each student along with the letter, just to make them have to pay something and acknowledge their failure in their duties? They should also have to write a letter of apology to the community and send it to local newspapers.
The above is the minimum they should suffer! (The tar and feathers treatment is tempting, though).
What’ll happen here...is that parents will realize the lessening value of the public school situation, and immediately (in the next school year), hook up with private schools to remedy the situation. If you had a gifted kid who was doing exceptionally well, why keep them in a limited situation?
Bring back stocks in the public square!
Regards,
By the time we know the whole truth it will be in the thousands.
My old school, Edison Highschool in Fairfax is listed. I left there and moved to rural Virginia 28 years ago and have never regretted it. I saw the writing on the wall even back then, NoVa is now Uber-liberal/lefty-land.
It use to be mostly conservative, with lots of senior military. Half the people in my neighborhood were colonels (my dad) or generals or captains or admirals.
So I wonder; will the sizeable Asian community in northern Virginia continue to vote for these Woke school admins that rat-fu*ked their kids out of well earned recognition and rewards?
DING...DING...DING....Folks,we have a winner
I know the awarding of scholarships are not automatic, but they were denied the chance to apply and in some cases were forced to pay out-of-state tuitions.
There should be some base level of restitution and a punitive penalty for willfully targeting students by race.
