Rep. George Santos’ financial ties to Russian oligarch’s cousin deepen: report
New York Post ^ | Jan 16, 2023 | Jesse O'Neill

A cousin of a sanctioned Russian oligarch has deep ties to disgraced Long Island Rep. George Santos, whose murky campaign financing is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee and federal prosecutors. Andrew Intrater, 60, gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to a company linked to the sketchy Republican congressman while also heavily contributing to Santos’ campaigns for office, according to a new report. Intrater and his wife each made a maximum contribution of $5,800 to Santos’ 2022 House campaign, the Washington Post reported Monday. The couple also gave tens of thousands of additional dollars to committees linked to the Republican — who admitted to The Post that he fabricated his personal and professional biography — since 2020, according to the outlet. Intrater is an American citizen and the cousin of Russian billionaire energy investor Viktor Vekselberg, who was sanctioned by the US in the wake of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Over the summer, authorities raided Vekselberg’s homes in Manhattan and the Hamptons, seized a $90 million yacht and froze his assets. A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission reportedly showed that Intrater put hundreds of thousands of dollars into Harbor City Capital, the Florida-based investment firm where Santos worked for more than a year — and which is under investigation for allegedly running a Ponzi scheme.

The congressional district elected him. A political party can’t remove him. He’ll have to lose the next election.

This guy is a piker compared to Biden’s lying and corruption.

Why should we play by different rules?

Oh, that’s right, we’re “better” than they are.

Better at losing.

He is under investigation by the ethics committee.

“I cannot see how the GOP allows this fool to hold office.”

You can blame the election of George Santos squarely on the shoulders of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, who in order to embarrass the Republican Party allowed Santos to win that race.

Call me when the Dems get excited about Joe and Hunter's connection to foreign money and influence.

The GOP "allows" nothing. The voters sent him to office.

Try to imagine the rule that tells a candidate they can't run on the GOP ticket.

If his primary opposition and Dem opposition don't expose him to the voters, then in some districts the "R" in front of his name is sufficient.

I don’t care what the media throws at him, as long as he votes the right way.

“disgraced Long Island Rep. George Santos,

LOL

The only difference between and the other swamp rats is he was outed as a lying POS BEFORE he took office.

And yes - he will serve his term, but likely not serve his constituents - just himself..

He’s a moving target.

If he’s a liar and crook he fits fine as a Member of Congress why the rush to kick him out?

Cousin of an oligarch? No fan of this guy but talk about straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel.

The guy played everybody...and got elected. Guess the local gop leaders didn’t do a very good job of checking him out. This is what happens when the voters just vote for the party...and don’t really check the candidate out.

As I’ve said before...give anyone enough money, the ability to say what the voters want to hear and you can elect anybody....heck anybody on this board could get in...:)

I think it’s pretty funny how all the grey beards are harrumphing about this...the kid got one over on them.

Hopefully, they’re not putting him on any committees, like certain democrats were. He’ll get the boot next election, unless he resigns.
