Abortions in Texas dramatically decreased in the months following the overturning of Roe v. Wade last June, according to recent state data.

Only three abortions took place in Texas in August 2022, all of which were "medically necessary," according to statistics from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

Compared with the 2,596 abortions recorded in the state in June 2022, the number in August represents a decrease of nearly 99%. Sixty-eight abortions were performed in July.

So is the State of Texas prosecuting that 1% of women that murder their babies?

Good for Texas. However, I suppose that most women who want abortions will travel to another state where it is available, such as New Mexico or Colorado.

You’d think folks would start moving out of here but they still arrive in droves — particularly from that california.

Abortions now in Texas are done to save the life of the mother. A friend of the family is one of the 3 done in Dallas in August. She developed a heart infection and the doctors had to go through legal/medical channels to show why it was needed. It was a sad time as the baby was badly wanted.

The law makes performing an abortion open to a civil lawsuit, brought by any Texas citizen. No one is at risk of going to jail. The mother is not at risk of a civil lawsuit. The Texas law is not a criminal statute, nor is it enforced by state government entities.
