House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) approval rating has surged as he finishes his first full week as Speaker of the House, according to the latest Economist/YouGov survey.
Before November’s midterm elections, McCarthy’s approval rating sat at 27 percent among all Americans. Now, 36 percent of Americans approve of McCarthy’s job performance, which matches former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) approval rating in the days leading up to the midterms.

The 20 holdouts set him up for success.
bttt
And, the Dems appear to be more than afraid.
the Dems appear to be more than afraid.
Lets see how long it takes the rats to commence the round the clock screaming chorus. That windbag Newt folded in about two weeks.
He looks a lot better than many hoped. Glad he’s doing a good job so far.
Yeah I’m not holding my breath. If the holdouts can hold him to his concessions he might be ok but if he’s doing good under duress I’m not optimistic.
But you can’t accumulate all that political capital and not squander it on doing something big for the deep state and against the People. Otherwise why are you there?
Trust but verify is always the best policy but I will cheerfully give him kudos for his first week.
I will also continue to thank the “20” (of whom many lies were told) and laugh at those who worried about “optics”.
That little moment of actual debate and “deal-making” on the floor was a rare moment in recent congressional history. It looks pretty good right now.
To be fair to Newt, the Republicans got elect on Newt's promises the RINOs [they weren't yet called that then] had no intention of keeping, not even for one day.
I was once impressed by both Paul Ryan and Dan Crenshaw.
I’ve been a McCarthy critic in the past and will criticize him in the future, if warranted.
However, the pressure that Trump & MAGA can implement on McCarthy is much more than be done on McTurtle in the Senate.
McConnell can be a dick because of the institution he represents, which is almost immune to popular pressure.
We gave kudos to Mitch for getting Trumps judges through too.
Also, the Contract with America promised that all of its items would be brought up to a vote within 100 days of the new Congress, not that they would be passed and sent to the Senate.
The present situation is complicated. On the one hand, it's easy to vote for all the resolutions this week whether or not one actually agrees with them, since the Senate is going to throw them all in the circular file (thank you, Mitch). On the other hand, the country can see that it really is the Democrats who want to kill babies, send SPR oil to China, and sic the IRS on the general population; the implications of this might begin to sink in, in the minds of the low-info voters.
McCarthy is on a very short leash, and he knows it.
In a way, it gives him an advantage because even if he wanted to make a compromise, he can’t if he doesn’t want to face a vote to vacate his position.
To be fair to Newt, the Republicans got elect on Newt’s promises the RINOs [they weren’t yet called that then] had no intention of keeping, not even for one day.

My top 5 Republicans in my lifetime all have flaws and faults.(I was born in 1971)
In no particular order:
1) Reagan
2) Trump
3) Nixon
4) Gingrich
5) Limbaugh
Were they perfect conservatives..... no.....but it would be a worse world without their contributions.
Yes,he seems to be off to a pretty good start.
