Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., is introducing an amendment to the House rules on Tuesday to allow C-SPAN cameras on the House floor during normal proceedings.
The amendment would require the speaker of the House to allow C-SPAN to broadcast the floor proceedings of the House, much like during the contentious House speaker vote last week.
"I've received a lot of feedback from constituents about how interesting it was, and that you were able to see in real time how our government is functioning, what alliances are being created, what discussions are being had, what animated moments drive the action," Gaetz told Fox News Digital in an interview. "And the pool view of the Congress is antiquated and a little boomer-fied."
Gaetz’s amendment requires the speaker of the House to allow a minimum of four cameras owned and operated by C-SPAN to broadcast and record the floor proceedings of the House.

Let's get some sunlight back in there, especially since the new rules won't allow them to proxy vote any more, either.
I was wondering why there was no C-SPAN covering it…
McCarthy needs to be tracked.
Why didn’t McCarthy do this? Oh yeah. He thinks he is the new Pelosi diva. Good on Matt G.
if they’re going to allow cameras, maybe it should be OANN or someone other than c-span...
Hmmm...I’ve been watching today’s proceedings on c-span.
Great idea. C-SPAN and it’s four cameras could then cover whatever is of interest in the chamber unlike the “House-controlled” camera which only covered the chair.
“Support has been mounting for C-SPAN to permanently adopt the approach it took last week to Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s contentious speaker election, in which it freely roamed the House floor and captured dramatic moments that don’t often see air time. Typically, cameras are fixed on the dais and are controlled by the House Recording Studio, whose footage is then used by C-SPAN.”
According to the article, they're not live, and are being edited right now, whenever Congress is in session. This would change that back to live cameras only.
Live cameras were allowed during the Speaker vote, because Congress not actually in session, which led to people wanting this change.
Whut?
We need to go further and get rid of all the secret committee meetings. ESPECIALLY the Intelligence ones.
If the government doesn’t want the People knowing about it, then the government shouldn’t be doing it.
Great idea.
It isn't that they're not live, it's that the House controls where they're pointed.
When you watch the regular House proceedings on C-SPAN all you see is the Speaker's dais and a zoom-in on the member who's recognized to speak. There's no panning of the (usually empty) chamber or coverage of conversations, etc. going on in the background.
C-SPAN has been complaining about this forever.
Thanks for that important correction.
What is he talking about? I’ve turned on both the House and Senate C Span before and see daily proceedings going on. Lots of speeches and very boring but it’s covered!
Mystery to me what everyone is talking about - I’ve never had any problem getting the proceedings on C Span...
In a nutshell, cameras only covered the podium, not the House floor.
Who removed them?
To be able to watch the confrontation between McCarthy and Gaetz after the 14th vote was TV gold. Gaetz schmoozing with the Dems? Too bad the lip readers couldn’t catch that one.
I agree, it really was special. So glad we had someone here on FR who knew who everyone was, even from the back. Priceless.
